Technical Problem

After playing BG2 forever, I suddenly cannot load any games and get this message after I click "Load Game":

"An Assertion failed in InfScreenLoad.cpp at line number 1428"

I have no idea what that means.

I can't even FIND InfScreenLoad.cpp (and probably wouldn't know what to do with/to it if I could).

I can load TOB games but not SOA games.

I tried setting up and saving a new SOA game, then reloading that ... no dice ... same message.

I have just the basic game with both patches.

Any help appreciated.

I can't help you with the really technical stuff, but have you tried copying your save games to a separate folder and then doing a clean reinstall?

Bear in mind I'm not sure about this, but it MIGHT have something to do with corrupt bmp-files (meaning the portrait files for your pc and the npc's).
I'd copy your saved games and store those copies somewhere else.
Go to the saved game directory in BG2 and delete all bmp-files. Restart the game, see if it worked. If not, no harm done because you can always put your copied saved games back where they ought to be.
