Sarevok's Sword

I did only played SoA so i don't know if there's a change in the weapon if you give it to Sarevok.I mean if I keep the sword of chaos and give it to Sarevok in ToB will he have the sword get better abilities?
If not i will sell it because i hate carrying stuff that i don't use.

If you install the ascension mod, the sword will become better when given to Sarevok in ToB, but if you don't install it, the sword won't improve.

Is there an override file we can get for the sword so we do not need the rest of the Ascension MOD? I thought about that and tried it with the standard version but it appears black isle was not thinking that far in advance.
