Registry/patch problem

I've played the whole game including ToB through several times before, but now I'm having problems installing ToB, and a problem with the game refusing to recognise that it is already installed, and finally a problem installing the ToB patch. SoA installs fine, but several times after the first time I played, when I tried to start the game it would only give me the option to install. I assume this is a registry problem. ToB failed to finish installing several times, so I decided to play SoA without it, but now I'm nearing the end and I want ToB, so I decided to try one last time, and it worked. But, the second time I tried to play I got the same old problem, and the computer refuses to acknowledge that the game is already installed. I really don't want to have to install again as I would probably have problems with installing ToB again. I tried installing the ToB patch (The SoA patch is already installed) but after taking me to the setup screen when I click 'Next' it says it cannot find the file (it can't find itself?). As the problem is most likely with the registry I'm hoping there is some way around it without having to reinstall. Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

As you suspect it is probably registry problems.

Download Reg Scrub XP, freeware and the best registry cleaner out there - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Try running that then attempting the install again, if that fails you may want to try to uninstall Baldur's Gate II completely (inc. SoA), empty your override folder in the BG2 directory, run Reg Scrub then install all over again.

Make sure your versions of BG2 are patched when running Reg Scrub again in the future, I'm sure there is a bug in unpatched SoA where registry cleaners delete a key and the game isn't recognized as installed (though I don't believe that to be your problem)
