| | Kensai/Mage can I still enjoy the game? Hello to all the BG2 fans out there. I had a question about kensai/mages. I play BG2 on 'insane' difficulty and have downloaded all the latest tactical challenge and battle enhancing mods for more challenge. My question is can I play as a kensai/mage, starting in SoA and ending in ToB, and still enjoy playing the game? I've heard that kensai/mage is too powerful to be fun, but I wanted to know if that idea still holds true with the lv of difficulty I will be playing with. Thanks guys I really appreciate your ideas on this matter . |

| | | Hello Black-Adder. I've never personally played with Kensai/Mage, but I'm fairly sure that, with the Tactics Mod installed...plus a lot of other battle enhancing mods...plus insane difficulty...you will be provided with a significant challenge, regardless of class (It did for me while just playing with Normal with Undead Hunter :/ ). |

| | | Kensai/mage is one of the most overpowered chars, period. If you're looking for a challenge, kensai/mage is not the way to go.

| | Black-Adder, I assume you have installed Tactics, Ascension (with "Improved" opponents), Improved Liches, Spell-50, and Improved Battles. That sounds pretty challenging to me, even with a Kensai/Mage. I suspect it would even be challenging with UserUnfriendly's infamous Bun-Bun (the ultimate super-cheesy hacked character). Quote: |

| | | If you've downloaded what Von-Dondu just mentioned then you should be challenged regardless of what class you choose. I've never played a Kensai/Mage, though I've heard stories, but Improved Ascension and Tactics are, well, HARD. |

| | Hey guys, thanks for your great replies. Sorry for not replying sooner. I am currently studying for a math test that is tomorrow. Of course I use the term 'studying' loosely . For anybody that's not my parents or teacher, when I say 'studying' what I really mean is i'm talking to people on the internet (at least for the moment ). I've asked the same question on several forums and the results have come in mixed. Some people say you can have more than enough challenge w/ insane "difficulty" + all the mods. Others say, kensai/mage is too powerful in all cases. Overall I've heard that (mostly), depending on how you play (by that I mean how much cheese you use ) you can always find challenge no matter what class you use. Using a more powerful character class, just makes it easier to not have to use cheese to win (that's the basic arguement anyway).
From what i've heard it seems like i'll have more than enough cheese...er I mean challenge...to have fun with the game. Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it.
P.S. If somebody feels like they want to reply to what i've said here, feel free, I'm afraid I won't be able to reply back for two days though...good gaming! |

| | Playing all the Improved batlle Mods on insane is near impossible. Unless you plan to reload countless and countless and countless of times, of course.

espacaily the last battle.. i had 10 devas and 12 shambling moulds summoned but still couldnt beat mellison on insane, had to switch to hard

Mage has loads of spells that enhance melee-fighting :Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Blur, Improved Haste, Spell-Immunity, Tenser's, Black Balde of Disaster (hehe, just for fun) and ultimately: Time Stop + Whirlwind (20 attacks while the time is stopped = nice). Kensai mage's rock, plus good thaco scores becomes less important, cause with 25 strengh, two +5 weapons (perhaps with mastery), plus some other buffs = always hit thaco...

Dual-classing from kit to class is possible, though.
