This depends very on class/alignment...

You get one point of Dex in Watcher's Keep.

There's a piece of armor that gives 1 dex.

Gaunts of Dex don't really do much if you already have 18.

You'll prolly lose a point of Dex in Hell if yer a Paladin.

if you are running with nalia or immie as main thief in party, give the dex bonus to either of them.

if you increase thier dex, their thief skills go up!!!I gained about 40 points per type when I gave immie a 1 point dex upgrade.

Sorry to correct you, but you only gain 5% in each of those abilities that rely on DEX per point and only if your DEX is on a certain level, in all cases if it's above 17.

There are 7 abilities and at least DI (not sure about ST) isn't influenced by DEX. So you'd gain 30% in total rather than 40% per type. Maybe the large difference you've noticed was influenced by a change of armor?

For further information see also Game Banshee's BG2 character class section, -> thieving skill dexterity adjustments. Game Banshee has it all covered, as usual.

3 maximum if you are a thief or thief multiclass

1 from Machine of Lum the mad
1 from attacking Sarevok in Hell (in addition to two points of strength)
1 from Deck of Many things

Multis benefit more from Deck/hell they get a point in each of their main attributes.

Kep in mind you can alos lose a point in the selfishness test or the dream in Spellhold

Theoretical maximum unmodified dex

Import elf/halfing with 19 dex from BG1 + tome of dex

20 dex

+those three bonuses

23 dex.

Dude, just sayin' where you can ge the "extra" one from... and that you need to be a rogue...

personally, I gave everything to my character - but that's because I'm selfish...

Loki

PS.. and i'm a paladin... the difference in str was meaningless - as i use a str enhancing belt... what the hell eh?
