Post Improved tougher Abazigal won't die :(

this is really frustrating...
I decided to do some tough monster kicking and installed all the Improved Tougher 'XXXX' patches.
so there I am, a kensai/mage with only Viconia at my side (I wanted to solo but then decided to give Vicky's romance a try ) and I've made it this far without to many problems. all the tougher battles so far were really fun, but with Abazigal I ran into a 'little' problem...
first off, I found the fight was a lot tougher than I had expected, the real pain is keeping Viconia alive (or at least, not getting her permanently killed ) well, after god knows how many reloads and several strategy changes I finally found a pretty reliable way of getting rid of the Drakes and the purple dragon. so then, I killed everything except Abazigal, who was still in his human form. I decided to keep him busy with a Mord's Sword and a Deva, while I retreated out of his line-of-sight and quick-saved at that point I thought, 'ok, it's preatty much over, he should be easy'... khm...
well, after about 20 reloads and getting him down to Near Death almost every time, I got suspucious. whatever I did, he wouldn't die! once I got him to Near Death and then cast Time Stop three consecutive times and kept whacking at him all along; still, he wouldn't die. next time I cast Wish, got a double length Time Stop, then cast Time stop a further five times, without interruption; kept pounding him all the time and still he insisted on living. I added up all the damage and it turns out I did about 1000 dmg to him! that's twice the amount of his HP (500... checked with SK)! so I'm thinking 'Sc*ew you, I beat you fair and square' and decide to Ctrl-Y him... well, you guessed it - he DIDN'T die!! Ctrl-Y didn't kill him!
so I then Qtrl-Q him and sure enough, he has 1 of 500 HP left, and regardles of how much I pound him he's stuck at that 1 HP.

so now I'm stuck with an immortal dragon after all the trouble I've gone through to kill him, it turns out I can't... there's just no justice in the world ...

Your problem is that you keep whacking him. In the game there is a bug that characters who have to perform some special action on death (e.g. Trolls collapse, Abazigal transforms) will not do so if receiving (too much) damage.

Simply try backing off one of your characters, or both, when you get him down to Badly Injured, so that you don't overkill on him.

If you're worried about the romance breaking, have no fear, death won't kill it, nor will Imprisonment. Not in ToB.
