Angry Help on Draconis

This guy annoys the crap out of me; his little tactic where he gets invisible, runs away, and heals himself completely for an unlimited number of times has to be the cheesiest tactic in the history of RPGs. I just can't beat this guy, and I need your help. Basically, I'm sick of using CTRL + Y, I wanna whack this lizard the old fashioned way. I thought casting a lot of stun and hold type spells might work, but his magic resistance plus his stupid spell protections make it seriously hard. Please help. Thanx in advance.

Summoned Monsters help as well. Send them in to absorb his damage, then move in for the kill with your warriors (Hint: Stoneskin on mages and Ironskin on druids works wonders, and don't skimp out on haste).

One thing to note is that Draconis is immune to many elemental-based attacks.

Draconis was indeed tough and gave me a lot more trouble than his daddy the first time through.

True Sight is a must, and I had to use multiple time stops. If you have a thief with use any item or even better, a bard with high spell ability, you might want to try laying some time traps and then hitting him with some anti-protection spells or using assassination on him.

also summon lots of monsters. use a spell trigger to hit him with multiple lower resistance spells so you can cast against him.

As baudib says, a spell trigger with three lower resistances will strip D of his magic resistance (typical dragon MR is only 50%). Chain contingency with 3 Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings followed by time stop and more horrid wiltings (loads of scrolls of this spell can be found or bought) and he should be dead. The cloak of mirroring is the most obvious way to protect from his breath weapon -- he's a green dragon IIRC, so that's chlorine gas, so maybe protection from acid would help (not sure if the chlorine counts as acid) if you don't want to use the cloak or protection from the elements.

Use Mordekains sword, the sword is immune to his damage.

This how I didi it:

True sight, then Spellstrike, then Spell trigger with Breach and two Lower resists, then 2 Abi-Dalzim's horrid wiltings. Before the fight I used most of my protections, summoned planetars, 2 Mordekainen swords, an elemental prince and a stone golem.

My party was of four; during all the fight I attacked with the two fighters using great whirlwinds; and the cleric with energy blades and implosion.

That's about it... and yes, it's indeed a difficult fight.

Oh man, Draconis is a killer - he kicked my ass twice before I was forced to resort to spike traps >:-)

The very very annoying thing is, he casts several things at once and WITHOUT delay starts casting other things. He moves faster than my characters (boots of speed) so he runs around casting invisibility, invisible stalker, etc etc all in two seconds or something.

Even if you cast "True Sight," it takes several seconds to dispel the "new" invisibility.

After Draconis completely wasted my entire party a few times i decided it might be better to just send my pc conjurer to kill him. To start off i used the death spell against his shadow stalkers and then summoned in skeleton warriors to deal with his human form. After the stalkers are dead the skeleton warriors ( or whatever u decided to use) should still be fighting his human form and your mage should be off screen waiting for him to transform into dragon. After he transformed i brought in a clay golem and a planetar to keep him busy while i casted 2 lower resists and a breach just to make sure no magic defenses/resistances would get in my way. Once he was left defenseless i timestopped, casted improved alacrity, and then pumped out 4 delayed blast fireballs, 2 ice storms, and 2 horrid wiltings. He was left a crispy critter. (Cloak of Vecna and amulet of power needed )

traps traps traps(mainly spiked traps)

i think i used about 4 spiked and 1 timed trap

I had my thief backstab a couple of the salamanders to give me room to set traps. Then lured abizigal out to spar with party until he turned to dragon form. Then retreated to near the door. The traps took him out. It was almost too easy.

The best way to beat any buff monter is to cast Natures Beauty.
There is no save against it and it makes for a huge advantage when fighting Dragons; especially in ToB!
Try it out, that is what I did to beat him.
If you lucky you will blind all his ghost things. They will all just stand there for the chopping.

If you have a fighter with Greater Whirlwind, it comes highly recommended. I have "stored" it several times. Especially useful with both Crom Faer and Flail of the Ages.

Time stop+improved alacticity+spell strike+a spell trigger with breachand 2 lower resist+as many dragon breath and Abi dahlsim horrid wrildthing(spelling?) as possible. Then just wack the cold blood out of him with a deva and storms of vengence. And ofcource keep true sight on permanently with keldorn or someone else. Most of the time the fighters dont even have to tuch him before his head falls off.

I took the tips straight from GameBanshee's stat guides. I tried doing everything recommended as far as hitting him with time stop and this and that and the other thing, but when my time stop ran out, he'd just run out of sight and heal up to full health again, man did that suck, but I didn't fold under the pressure. I resurrected my dead Imoen and when he reared his ugly head again, I hit him with 2 lower resistances and had Jaheira do a Harm spell. She knocked him down to 1 hit point with that bad boy, then I just magic missled him and pounded him with swords until one finally got in. Took me lots of different strats and reloads, but that one worked on my 2nd try.

on a side note, how do you set traps with hostiles in the area...didn't think you could.

Hope this helps

To set traps all you have to do is set them before you see the hostile, and then lead the dragon or whatever to the traps. It is really cheezy but it works.

You can also set the trap very close to the person if you are a bounty hunter and use the special trap. With tis trap you don't have to walk to the spot where you want to put it so just hide walk as close as you can and set the trap at the exact dita´nce when he cannot see you. The trap will spring and the monster come after you into the permanent traps you have set at the point where he cannot see you.

This is the most effective way to use traps but also the most chezziest and should not be used if you have any Honor at all
