Demigorgon TOUGH!!! (Spoiler)

Hey guys.... just got through the DemiGorgon battle...... couldn't very well take the wimp route and just seal him in

Just wanted to comment that I thought the info given in the strategy guides on this site is deceiving - makes this seem like an easy fight, I found it to be the hardest fight of either SoA or ToB...

My PC is a level 24 or 25 sorcerer, Keldorn, Amonen, Jaheria, Nahlia and Minsc, and I got my arse kicked repeatedly, although I sailed through the keep without reloading....

SOmeone posted on the strategy guides to use area damage spells and "watch the damage pile up" - well I used AD. Horrid wilting, Cloudkill, Cone of COld, everything under the sun and no damage to Demigorgon, my sorcerer ended up held or dire charmed.....

Plus if you kill of the Marileths right away he respawns an endless amount of Glazebru's....

Anyway I am posting my strategy for beating him on the Strategy Guides section, it is not easy, when I finally won I was down to myself (sorcerer), Nahlia and Keldorn with about 10 HP left, running around casting spells at the glazebru's, wasn't a pretty victory by any means..........

Try the improved demigorgan I found it pretty f***en impossible without using major cheese. Had to restart SoA and make a new party geared just for killing him. Think the bastards harder than the eclipse party.

How could he possibly be any harder? Does he summon more as well or just have higher magic resistance / HP?

I found he was just about immortal until I pounded him with spell strikes and lower resistance - took a few to soften him up....

I am surprised there isn't more chatter on here about him - like I said even the original ToB DG is brutal........

spoiler....

Improved demo casts time stop at beginning of battle. During that he summons about 5 demons, casts dragon breath, and does that gaze thing which confuses everyone. As far as I know Lower Resist didn't work on him, but Pierce Magic might. Oh yea I didn't even bother trying melee cause he kept chunking characters forcing reloads, and yea he summons an endless amount of guys, but they were most balors and marileths. In my opinion he can't be beat without serious cheesy tactics. I didn't try Dragon Breaths though cause at the time I didn't have it. Maybe that would've helped?

The commonly used minor cheese tactic is to spiketrap his spawning point. 100% lethality with 5+ traps; use less to just soften him up a little. I personally think killing him outright with spike traps is rather boring. One can beat him without cheese, but this needs some micromanagement effort in order to deal with the Mariliths.

improved demo is def. very hard./ i did it but used the spike trick--although since i was using jan and he would only set about 2-3 spike traps successfully, the rest of the work was done by tanks--i used sarevok and korgan. my pc was a wild mage and i had edwin and viconia. my pc and edwin just stood back casting every spell that would lower resistances i had. viconia had already summoned elemental princes and i had already had the mages summon every single good summoned creature possible. then the tanks just concentrated on demo with whirlwinds and the like. it took a try or two but he eventually went down. mind you, most of mine were down too, but that's the price to beat the prince of demons without using complete cheese.

Should've tried this but it's too late. Pro. magical weapons/energy along with black blade of disaster cast on my Swash/Mage. Wonder if that'll work?

Gee, I can't even recall what kind of strategy I used to defeat Demogorgon, but I found the battles I faced unlocking the seals to be tougher than defeating him. I kept my cavalier PC on Demogorgon the entire battle (lots of Greater Whirlwinds). It helped that he had great magic resistance, good AC, awesome saving throws, and Carsomyr +6. I kept the rest of the party (and the summoned fodder) busy with the things Demo conjured up. My PC took some hits, but I kept him whacking away on Demogorgon, and I managed not to lose a soul, as I recall. However, I didn't do that battle until I was nearly finished with ToB. I worked my way down to that final level, and then killed off Yaga Shura, Sendai, and Abazigal before I tackled the Prince of Demons. Perhaps your level might be a deciding factor in this fight.

As always, it depends on your party...
The first time I managed to beat Demo, tried immediatly after
the Improved version and could not beat him for my life!!

The next time I had only three party members, but my PC was
a Kensai/Mage, and killed Improved Demo almost easily!!!!
Again I point how!

project image dear, project image...

first prepare a chain contingency with triple project image when helpless, target yourself... then when the battle starts, cast project image. you should get 4 images. then pause and let one of them prepare a chain contingency with 3 pierce shields at demogorgon at see enemy... then the rest do improved alacrities and summon planetars (there is no limit ) your fighters can simply let demo whomp on them and take out his summons (or if you have a fighter capable of prot from magical weapons, let him tank demo)

4 images = 4 sorcerors... and i do believe sorcerors are the best mage class for this technique...

the original demogorgon wasn't too difficult, i managed him with one reload... but how is the improved one?

I tryed to beat him a while ago. It was pretty hopeless. But reading all of these I wouldn't say most of these count. Loading the spawn point with spike traps like you know where he will spawn in advance (what I did to advance the story I don't think this counts as killing him), using a loophole in the programming to be able to summon more planetars than should be possible. It's helpful to know ideas for fighting him for real because most people know that 10 spike traps or 15 planetars will wipe clean most anything.

If you want to avoid getting any characters killed you can take him out with a single (or more) sorc(s). Cast energy blades (100% hit) and summon a sword. The sword keeps the mariliths and demo busy for a while. During that time cast breach and follow with energy blades. Eventually demo will kill or charm the blade with his gaze attack but it should buy you quite alot of time. When the blade gets wiped, summon another one. Rinse and repeat until he is dead. Sometimes demo recasts his stoneskin but just breach it too. You might need both the robe of vecna and the amulet of power to be fast enough with the summoning and breaches.

I don't know about the improved one but the weaker one dies like this. I've done it twice already.
