Wizard Slayer/Mage...

Okay, I'm going to test a combination I've just though about :

Wizard Slayer / Mage.

I know it's nothing new, but this character could be lethal if he's using ... ranged weapons! This could be an awsome solo class... couldn't it?

I'll just give it a try.. results will be posted later!

I've played one with an enhancer to the 1% magic resistance a level he gets. He'd get 4% a level instead. I can only say he was an unstopable killing machine. The only problem is that the game became dull. I couldnt use several cool items, Carsormyr became useless once I've reached max magic resistance. The good thing is that you may cast any spell in your neighborhood and you wont be hurt at all. But the best combo, with WZ is the WZ thief. Adding backstab to your character will rule, be sure of that. I'll dual wield him with katanas or have him use staffs for the staff of the ram.

Hey SP101, You may want to run a thread search for wizard slayer / mage. You'll find a thread that went prtty well. Don't remember what, but it was about four months ago or so. It may have Luis's, but I don't know, a regular game Banshee screamer.

I know, the guy was using maces as a main weapon, right?

Well.. a melee WS/Mage is the way to go for a Solo character, but I've tried this combination as a ranged weapon user PC for a 4-members party. Works really well! You could also Grand Master in axes, and throw axes instead of using bows like I did (I was using Short Bows, Tuigan's attack speed is just too great with the WS's spell disruption!).

Melee Oponents :

Well... this character has little to no problem against melee oponents. As long as you stay Stoneskinned/Mirror Imaged/Fireshielded/Blured/Improved Invisible/etc., you're nearly invincible. Contengencies are your friend... set them to "Helpless" and use Improved Invisibility or "HP50%" and Stoneskin. Works great!

Magics users (Mages, Clerics, etc.):

Easiest fights ever.. With Tuigan bow, I have 4 attacks per round (would be 5 with GrandMastery Patch). This means after the end of the 1st round : 40% spellcasting failure... even if they were stoneskinned. Since you're yourself a mage, you can easily cash spells like breach, remove/dispel magic and ruby ray of reversal. Really useful!

Undeads

No real problems here... since I have a proficiency in longswords and I'm using Daystar when I encounter some undeads. You could do the same with Mace of Disruption or AzurEdge. Liches aren't your worst nightmare... since at round 3, they should already be unable to cast any spells. Breach and fight.

Dragons

I haven't faced any dragons yet.. but it seems it would be easy : cast a Protection From [Insert Element Here] on yourself, Improved Haste, Improved Invisibility, Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, etc. You're gonna eat him alive. Spell Disruption will make him unable to heal himself.

If a Wizard Slayers powers are used on each successful hit, wouldn't being a grandmaster in Darts be the best option?

Sure... but is there any good darts out there? (Except the ever-returning +3 dart from Watcher Keep).

Anyway, darts won't do good damages in mid/late game, while shortbows can hurt a bit more .

I think 'Asp's Nest' darts are best after the Crimson Dart (the +3 dart you are referring to).

Yes, but they finish, and you cant use them anymore.

Good recipee for Wizard Slayer, tested by yours truly:

Have a Wizard Slayer,
Add a dual wield on Daggers,

Melee:
Main hand: Use the Daggers you want. I prefer the Stilleto of the Demarches and the one you get on Watchers keep that really rules all. Before those, you can use a +2 dagger in the off hand and a +3 or 4 in the main hand. There's one good dagger for it on the (spoilers ahead) underdark. A +4 if I'm not mistaken, so after that you can slay mr Kanggy, and be happy forever.

Ranged:
There's a fire dagger being sold in the underdark. It is +3. Use it. Good way to slay dragons. Yeah, dragons. Except, of course, red dragons. Now, wield it with a shield. If you have Improved Whirlwind, your enemies will not be able to cast spells in, say, 7, 8 atacks? Yeah, something like that.

Notice that in Tactics mod the enemies have several "bluffs" to avoid the magic resistance loss, and that they counteract your resistance easily, with certain spells that are cheesy enough to lower your resistance or to bypass MR. In the normal game, the mages wont bother doing this, only liches, and I remember having had problems only with Kangaax, because I hadnt yet picked up the MR scrols (you will have to item swap to use them, if I'm not mistaken).
