Vanilla Cleric

I read in another topic concerning how realistic the BG2 NPCs are to go through the complete game, due to conflicts with their deities, etc.
So this got me thinking really, and this is more of a general question than BG2 gameplay specific...but if Clerics are unkitted (i.e. have no deity to follow) then who gives them power? Do you think that this is impossible or can be counter-argued?

I guess clerics can't be deity-less. Even if it doesn't say so in your biography, you have to have a god - or be a real crappy cleric.

In the Forgotten Realms clerics do need a deity (though in D&D as a whole they can also be clerics of a concept, such as Good or Death).

If you are looking for more choices of deities, try the Divine Remix mod from http://www.gibberlings3.net
