| | Valygar Corthala -- Just take a sec and read this please I'm starting the Umar Hills quest. When i get to valygar, should i have him in my party? right now i have me (necro mage), Minsc, Aerie, Anomen, Jan, and Keldorn. Would valygar be better than minsc maybe? or keldorn? Keldorn does have the gloves of dexterity. thanks |

| | I personally prefer Valygar to Minsc, because he is Stalker and can backstab. His strength is less than Minsc, but there are many girdles (and potions) of strength around and I didn't see any disadvantage. He can also learn a few mage spells as well.
As for Mazzy, I never had her long in my party. She is very good at bow, but if you prefer melee, she is not the one for you.

| | L, any of the potential NPC party members are good. There isn't a bad one. If you want to powerplay, you can find dozens of topics here (by doing a search) that will recommend the ultimate party--but you know that, by now.
The point is, Minsc/Valygar isn't an either/or, yes/no. Both are good. Each has their benefits and drawbacks. You can also play without either. I did, through one walkthrough.
It all comes down to the kind of player you are, and the style of your play. If you want a challenge, you may want to include Cernd, or Haer'dalis, or Nalia, three "problem characters" who don't offer as much as some other NPCs. If you want good, or evil, you may want to tailor accordingly. If you favor spells over brawn, or vice versa, or ranged over melee attacks, you should customize as well.
It's all up to you. As in life itself, there are no right and wrong answers that can be applied everywhere, to everybody. (I better get some rest.)

| | Ok, i have a problem now. Anomen killed Keldorn. I reloaded my last save, but is there no way to stop this? I don't want to have Viconia back, because her and Aerie fight, and Viconia just sucks. So if i cant avoid this event, then I think i'll have to take Keldorn out, for valygar i guess....would that be such a horrible loss? But I would much rather have them become friends or something to avoid the event. PLEASE HELP! |

| | Did Anomen not pass his test as a Knight or someting because if he did not then he will attack Keldorn and kill him. To prevent this, just kill Anomen whenever he attacks Keldorn. Simple .

| | Well Anomen is at level 12 right now, and this dude said he has to come to the radiant heart hall. Anomen didn't pass, then he and keldorn started arguing, and gradually, it turned to this. Keldorn didn't want to fight but Anomen was being a bitch. Anyways...keldorn for valygar. Valygar can dual weild his family sword and the flail of ages. This any good? Or I could switch out anomen for viconia, although I really need anomen. |

| | Again, L, do a search on "best party." You'd have read about Anomen's little sidetrips into depression if you had. Saved you a world of trouble.
Word of advice: stick with good/neutral or evil/neutral parties, to minimize internal conflicts. I'd suggest returning to a point before Anomen did his "task," and help him make the right choice.

| | Re: Mazzy. She is awesome! She has a nice ac, she rarely misses with her bow (there's a really nice one that Cromwell will assmble once you find the parts). And, even though she uses a short sword she's pretty good in melee as well. One of my favourite characters.

| | I didnt kill Saerk! I went to the magistrate! I dunno what went wrong. But anyways...I have to choose --> Anomen or Keldorn. Anomen has the shield of Balduran and Mace of disrupt which slows bad guys. He is like one of my tanks and he is my cleric. Viconia is weak and i never used her in battle really when i had her. I need a cleric, and Anomen is my only dude! I know Keldorn is super awsome too, but is there any way valygar can become super good like keldorn? I think it is my only choice, Valygar for Keldorn. I also hear anomen can turn the undead good. Hmm...someone please tell me if valygar will be any good. He can dual wield the flail of ages and his family sword. Thanks |

| | Just out of interest - why would you need to keep a cleric - I have posted a similar question on Elvenkings thread...

| | | I think the choice of NPCs, like Valygar vs. Keldorn, etc. is all a matter of preference and what type of party you are trying to build. The only specific reason for specifically taking certain NPCs that I can see is because some have quests you only get if they are in your party.
Especially with Valygar, if you have a good party and don't kill him, you have to have him join you to get inside the Planar Sphere. |

| I'm sorry...Viconia is not weak. Don't get me wrong I like Anomen, however just like a lot of people have already said on this site before it all depends on your party. I have beaten the game with Anomen in my party and with Viconia in my party. They are both great at what they do. Anomen is a better fighter and Viconia is a better cleric if she is used strictly for what shes good at. If you didnt know this Viconia can get magic resistance over 100% which means she cannot be disrupted when trying to heal fighters by enemy spells. How do you make Viconia 100% magic resistant?
amulet of power 5%
human skin armor 20%
Shield from madulf the ogre 5%
her natural magic resistance...
these get her around 95% magic resistance if you give her the ring of gaxx which i dont she would be at 105%.
As far as fighting she may not be able to hit a lot but she can defend herself very well because of her 19 dex...much better than anomen actually. You can get viconia's AC well over -13 but anomens will max at -11 or -12 no matter what you give him.
