Post Swashbuckler or fighter/thief?

Which do you guys think is better? A swashbuckler a dual fighter/thief or a multi fighter/thief. When I started playing I thought a dual fighter to thief was better for sure but now I am not sure. I like the swashbuckler.

The fighter/thief has better weapons, but the swashbuckler has sweet bonuses...I prefer the swashbuckler...

Whether or not you want to have the ability to backstab also comes into play...

The problem with the swashbuckler is that he can't backstab, but if you want a decent thief who can hold his own in a melee, go for swashbuckler

I'm playing a dual fighter-thief, but I wanted to backstab and figured I won't lose anything on the thief's side if I dual from a fighter to get the better thac0, more HP and the multiple stars in weapon skills.

I think the multi-class has the best thac0.
He advances on every level up as a fighter and on every second as a thief.

The swashbuckler advances every second level and gets another +1 every 5 levels.

The dual-class is mainly for people who want to play a pure thief with some decent fighter abilities.

I don't think multiclassed characters recieve thac0 bonuses from their thief side. I think it is the fighter class that count because it is better. Did that make sense? I am gonna check it out but I believe it is gonna be close, however the multiclass has more attacks than the swashbuckler.

Yep, you are right he doesn't get thac0 bonuses as a thief.

So, I think a fighter-thief and a swashbuckler should have almost the same thac0 with about 1 point difference depending on the level each one is.

One other problem with the swashbuckler is that he doesn't get the extra 1/2 attack for 2 proficiency stars in a weapon.

Multi classed characters and swashbucklers actually have the same thaco, if they have the same strength and the multi is wearing helm of balduran.
Multi has 3/2 more attacks per round.
Multi has better saves.
Swashbucklers has a better ac by four but cannot wear helmets or use shields. Swashbucklers do hit harder.
Swashbuckler have 175 more skill points to distribute.
Multi has one more profiency point and a wider choice of weapons.
Multi can ofcourse backstab.
Overall multi is better but swashbuckler is more fun.
This is my conclusion and the stats are at the cap. I left out dual classed theives cause they are only for backstabbers.
