i planned to put ***** to quarter staff and ** to 2-handed weapon style.. is it OK??

Start by making a kensai class PC.
Your kensai will need to be human and have intelligence 17 or higher. Accepted wisdom is to dual (button on the characater record screen) at 9th or 12th, for the combat bonuses. Once you dual, kensai abilities are temporarily lost until you reach one level higher in mage class, then they come back. E.g. dualling to mage at 9th level means the PC is a pure mage until 10th level.

Weapons and proficiencies are your choice, but consider dual-wielding 1-handed weapons...kensai can get *** in 2-weapon style. Katanas are popular (Deirdre sells one that gives extra spells).

As for proficiencies while in the pure mage stage, you don't lose them but you can only use mage weapons. However, any *'s in non-mage weapons come back when the kensai class is reactivated. And, as the mage levels up, new weapon profiencies gained follow rules for kensai, so you can (eventually!) get ***** in the weapon of your choice.

Be sure to place your mage proficiencies wisely and not in a weapon your kensai can't use, i.e. slings etc.
It takes alot of timing to use all of your proficiency slots. If you dual at level 9 then I would recommend to put your kensai slots in 2-handed sword, halberd and two-handed weapon style, two in each. Then go for quarterstaff and dagger when mage and then when you reactivate fill up quarterstaff.

you also need 15 str to dual

for duals you need 17 in the main stat(s) of the new class and 15 for the main stat(s) of the former class.

if you have ToB and don't have a full party, i think that you should dual from kensai at level 13, for the extra THAC0 and 1/2 attack (note that in the SoA XP cap you could only reach level 13/14 k/m)

But, since you won't have GWWs and etc, and will have 9th and 10th level spells, you won't be using your fighter abilities that much in ToB, only in SoA, but the extra HP will be nice for ToB

However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time. Therefore, if I ever happen to become an Evil Overlord, ...
