Angry Old men, Help Me!

Ok, The twisted rune always kicks my butt! (can I say butt on this post?) Anyway, I use Yoshimo to trap, he kills the vampire easy, my PC kills the warrior guy easy, and I usually flood the chamber before I talk to Twisted Rune with Cloudkill. Beholder attackes, I have to fight him melee to kill, it weakens me when I do that (cloudkill), then other mage comes, casts time stop, and beats up everyone else. I'm so far dead, I haven't even seen the vampire that I heard about. I have my PC (elf kesai), Yoshimo, Keldorn (I don't have Corsamyr), Jan, Jaeira, Minsc. I'm at level 10, so everyone is pretty much the same as me.

Wink

Not sure what to tell ya... That was one heck of a fight, but I was lucky enough to get through it on the first try. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I played that part of the game (I am currently going through it again with a Mage, first time was a Cleric/Ranger), so I can't remember if I had anything special as far as spells or items that I might have used. Sorry.

First of all, like in any Beholder encounter, make sure the person in front is using the Shield of Balduran to reflect rays - the beholder will eventually dire charm itself and switch sides. Send an invisible tank over to the back of the room to whack the mage, and have everyone else hang near the entrance and use ranged weapons/spells. Secondly - make sure you use protection from evil on everyone - the pit fiend will then ignore your guys and munch on everyone else.
Get a bunch of protection from undead scrolls and use the helm to cast simulcrum and cast the copys of the scrolls on your party - that takes care of the vampire.
The only problem then is the mage - once her protections are down she dies fast (don't all mages?) so just use breach or whatever until she starts taking damage, then she dies in 3 or 4 whacks.
It took me two attempts, and on the second the guy in the middle of the table (Shangalar?) died where he stood. The first time he teleported next to my party and caused a *lot* of trouble, eventually killing my protagonist with one of those pathetically cheesy one-shot-kill spells.

I know exactly how you feel! I hate those one hit kill spells. Shouldn't a Baalspawn be immune to those kinds of things?

Yeah, I liked the way they handled that in 'Planescape: Torment', where the Nameless One was immortal - no more reloads! Just heal up and go in again! It really helped with immersion, I mean how immersive is a 'save or reload' spell?
