"Multiclassed Madness" -- my new party

I'm thinking of this as my new party, just to give it a try:

Protagonist: Either an Elf F/M or F/M/T or a Gnome F/Ill (I want pointy weapons, so no Cleric)
Jaheira
Jan
Aerie

With either protagonist, I'll have 3 arcane spellcasters and 2 divine. Jan would easily be a good enough thief, and the whole party would have access to Stoneskin or Ironskin, making them very tough.

What do you think?

It sounds good to me and should be a lot of fun.

I would go with Fighter/theif or Fighter/illusionist since you already have Jan. Unless you are really hung up on backstabing then F/M/T. Sounds like a really fun party. You can stay will 4 and then just pick up other NPC's just to do there quests and then dump them.

F/M/T is the most versitile class, and is soo cruelly effective, however it can be pretty hard to make him strong with a big party. I don't know though if three other NPCs makes him usless or not..

Certainly not useless but it may not get up to 8th or 9th level spells. I recently played FMT in a 4 person party, but that was with Viconia, Imoen, and Minsc/Sarevok. I think the character would have made it to level 9 naturally by the end of ToB, but if they were 3 multi-class, I don't think it would have been close. It would essentially be splitting between 10 characters. I ended up just hacking in a few million extra XP points. It wasn't that anything was especially difficult, but things got boring without steady levelling, leaving it necessary to use pretty much the same tactics in every battle because you're lucky if you gain a new spell level with any given *chapter*.

Without an XP cap remover, triple classed characters will not be able to cast 9th level spells.

I'd make him a Fighter/Mage or Fighter/Illusionist. Can't remember if there are any critical spells that an Illusionist can't cast, but anyway Aerie can cast those...

You don't need more thieving abilities than Jan's. And it's fun to have Jan eventually back-stabbing people with Carsomyr... Although he does need some strength-enhancement...

Nobody can backstab with Carsomyr.

Yep. If a Thief can't use it originally, it's not a backstab weapon.

So, from backstab weapons, I'll have to award a prize to that special +6 staff. Great damage potential.

Ok ok. But he can hide in shadows and suddenly pop out and attack an enemy mage with Carsomyr. If weapons and target are chosen well you don't really need the multiplier anyway.

Actually you can, but you must have the thief HLA Assassination. With that any attack with any weapon in the next round counts as backstab.
