| | | Looking for something new-ish... Hullo thar, this is my first post on these boards even though I've been a loyal lurker for many years
Never felt the need to ask/say something since I've always found answers to all my questions. Well, until now that is. Here's the dealio, I don't know what class to play anymore and I need something new and funny and wicked. That doesn't mean that I've played with every class available, far from it. I'm a powergamer by nature but I've only recently found out that roleplaying is far more important because without it I lose interest pretty fast. Right now I'm roleplaying a solo female elven Archer through the saga and having a blast. But I'm nearing the end and I really don't know what to play next.
So I'm open to suggestions from you hardcore veterans out there I'd like to play something fun and unorthodox, something like Kensai with throwing axes/hammers or maybe some fun custom kit or something. Feel free to share your experience with a character you had loads of fun with, doesn't even have to completely unorthodox or anything. I'm counting on you guys, don't let me down |

| | | Well, there are various challenges which might improve the game difficulty, if this is what you need. Try winning the Ascension mod with a solo character. Or try a solo no-reload game on hard or insane difficulty. Or playing solo with some of the weakest classes(Beast Master, Shapeshifter, Wizard Slayer). Or combining these three.
There are a few weak custom kits, but most of the custom kits are insanely powerful, like the Geomantic Sorcerer or the Morituri warrior kit, so kits like the last two will make your game ridiculously easy. |

| | | A mod thhat I would recommend from a role playing point of view is the Saerileth mod, as it actually changes your storyline considerably. |

| | Thanks for the feedback Saros but not really looking for a challenge to improve the game difficulty. I've already soloed Ascension a few times and recently all of my games are no-reload games because it keeps you on your toes all the time and you're actually scared in some battles I didn't play Shapeshifter (rebalanced version) because he seems overpowered and I seriously dislike the idea of a Wizard Slayer, but I did solo a Beast Master before and it was really something else. Regarding custom kits, I agree that most of them are pretty imbalanced, especially the Morituri kit. But maybe there are some well made and balanced kits out there that someone has had fun with.
I guess what I'm looking for is new ways to play the game with only roleplaying and fun in mind. I think of myself as a pretty creative guy but a Kensai with throwing hammers or axes is all I can think of Sounds good in theory but not at all practical to play with. Or maybe a fun duo that would work well, possibly a Jester accompanied by someone. I'm sure that someone has some good ideas out there
Btw that Saerileth mod looks amazing, definitely gonna play it sometime. Can't believe I didn't hear about it, thank you for that Grimwald |

| | | Err, well I've been wanting to dual a bounty hunter to a mage one of these days (after I've managed to get the Gentoo distribution working). I've never done a bounty hunter before, and I figure I don't really need X levels just to get a maze trap.
I know what you mean about something newish though. My only sorrow with the BG series is the utterly inflexible character development compared to newer DND CRPGS. I've thought long and hard about original approaches to characters, but there's not much to work with.

| | You might consider a bard, they are actually a fun, versatile class, and personally, I find the bard stronghold quest series to be the best of all of them.
You could also try it with the Song and Silence mod, which is pretty well balanced.
Of course, that is all very subjective.

| | | Hmm I am in fact considering playing a solo Jester, but I have no idea how should I play a character like that since I never ever played a bard. Has anyone successfully soloed a Jester? |

| | Nah too much hack and slash so I'd probably get bored after a while and besides, rage ability makes you immune to EVERYTHING so it would also be too easy from start to finish.
Come on people, NEED IDEAS! |

| | | I second the bard idea, except I'd go for a blade. You really are the jack of all trades here and can take over multiple roles. Sure, you can't backstab (unless you're in BG1) but you can use magic and just about any weapon. There are many roleplaying possibilities. Because you have a high charisma score, you could even go as far as pretend to be a con artist and pose as either a thief, a fighter or a mage.
An assassin or swashbuckler both make you use different play styles. While an assassin is a silent and stealthy type, the swashbuckler can become more impressive than a fighter in melee. I think an assassin provides for a very fun game and they are also fun to roleplay as.

| | | A theater company!
You=bard
Haer'dalis
Aerie
Imoen (gotta have her!)
And um... other theatrically inclined people.
And Saerelith is indeed a well written mod. Not my style, but still an ok story. |

| | Hehe interesting, would songs from lets say Blade, Skald and Jester stack? Probably a dumb question, but never in my thousand BGT runs have I played a bard or took HaerDalis so I'm a complete bard newb |

| | | All songs would stack, except the Jester song affects enemies rather than allies. Also, it should be noted that the Enhanced Bard Song high level ability is the same for all kits, so in the end, if you decide to choose it, all three kits would end up with the same song.
