Kelsey data problems

I'm getting some odd problems with Kelsey's dialog responses--and would appreciate knowing if anybody else has found this, or has any remedies to suggest.

Under his record, instead of a name, I get "Indeed, we meet once again." If I press the keyboard number that corresponds to his character, I sometimes see a normal dialog window with "Indeed, we meet once again" in purple on the left (as though it were his name), with a dialog on the right beginning something to the effect of "This grows very tedious..." It then appears to be a diatribe directed at Irenicus.

I've tried reinstalling 1.05 over itself (not uninstalling; I'm afraid of losing the character, and resetting all values), but nothing changes this. Any ideas? The character otherwise plays well. Thanks.

Hi Fable:

I believe this is the same dialog problem that I had a few weeks ago. Reinstalling won't quite work out as it would just copy over the same files.

What I did was radical, but I solved the problem. I uninstalled all Kelsey mods (SoA and ToB), reinstalled and ran them again in that dos thingy. I don't have a techie explanation for this, but I think that different versions of the mod could have caused this problem.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I did a complete reinstall, per my comments in a separate thread. That seems to have fixed the dialog problems, although the names of Kelsey and Tashia are not above the character portraits in the record screens. (The official NPCs are.) Is that standard? Or am I still having problems?

EDIT: No, still getting problems. Apparently the absence of any name on the record translates into no name in the dialog box.

Ok, I will go back home tonight to check my files. If all else fails, it could be something else altogether. Worse to the worse, I will pm/email Kelsey himself to find out. High time this gets sorted out once and for all.

Cheers!

It appears from this thread that the order of installation has someting to do with the dialog issue.

From the man himself in the above thread:

If that's the case, you'll need to uninstall the game, delete your override directory and the weidu.log file, and then reinstall

SOA
TOB
TOB patch

and then the mods.

Please see if that works. If not, kindly refer to my above post.

to fix it (and the dialogue problem without need of reinstalling):
for Kelsey, select him and press "k". The screen should go unclickable for a few seconds and everything goes back to normal.
for Tashia, use your talk button and talk to her. Tell her she looks odd.

I happen to have just installed Tashia... over Kelsey... and I'd love to know if I'm experiencing any problems
Dumb me, shoot at me for coming around here asking this same question for almost every mod I do install... "is Tashia supposed to be voiced"?
Thanks in advance

Perish the thought! That's what this forum is for.

Yes, Tashia is voiced. IMO, she doesn't have as many lines as the other NPCs (Kelsey, Valen, Sola) and kept quiet for most of the time in SoA.

So maybe I'm in trouble after all.
Can you tell me some lines that should be voiced?
(I only had her joining dialogue and 1 "lovetalk" so far... I think... and never heard her voice).
Also, looks like she has no selection/activation lines.

Oh dear...

This is what I found out from the Tashia FAQ site:

Tashia haven't said anything for a long time. What's wrong?
There are several reasons why this can happen. Tashia won't talk if...
a) You're in a dungeon / inn - move outside.
b) You're in chapter 4, or 5 - get out of Underdark.
c) You've reached LoveTalk 47 (talk about her loosing her spells), but you're not yet on Chapter 6 - you progressed through the romance too quickly. Pass the Underdark to allow her romance to continue.
d) You've already rescued and resurrected Tashia - this is the end of SoA segment of the romance. Kill Irenicus and move on to the expansion.

None of the reasons above apply, and Tashia isn't talking!
This can be caused by several reasons, most notable of which being uninstallation of a previously (before Tashia) installed mod without the removal of Tashia first. If you have the official ToB Patch (not the beta one), and both GetGlobal("TashiaRomanceActive","GLOBAL") and GetGlobal("TashiaMatch","GLOBAL") variables are set to 1, try making her talk by setting SetGlobal("TashiaRomance","GLOBAL",1) -- please note what action follows.
a) If Tashia turned toward your character right after you executed the command above, then your INTERDIA.2DA file is messed up. Try running _FIX2DA.BAT from Tashia folder in your BG2 directory, though I recommend a complete re-installation of the Tashia mod instead.
b) If Tashia didn't do anything, and did not react to this command in any way, then you should try re-installing the game completely. Backup your SAVE folder (where BG2 stores its saved games), uninstall the entire game, delete whatever is left afterwards (such as the Override folder), and install it anew. Don't forget the Official BioWare Throne of Bhaal patch after you're done. Now you can install Tashia, Solaufein, Kelsey, or any other well-tested WeiDU mods in any order you please.

No, wait...
I'm not saying "she never speaks a line" or "the romance is not progressing" or similar things.
What I'm saying is just:
I have her in the party by less than a day, because I installed the mod yesterday. So far, I didn't hear voiced lines. "Is it normal"?

So far I noticed that: I hear no voice when she joins.
I hear no voice when I click on her.
I heard no voice in what I think was the first "lovetalk".

This does not seem like the problems listed in the readme to me... So I'm wondering if it is a problem at all.
I had the same problem with Sola, until some very kind person from this forum informed me that Sola has something like a total of 2 voiced lines in all of his dialogues!

*edit*
Uhmmm.... I think I found an error in the log.
The "music" file didn't unzip properly.
Could be it... really...
Also, I noticed all those waw files... they should definitely "say" something!
Funny that my game didn't crash I have to try harder...

You're absolutely right! Those both did the trick. Too bad they weren't included in the readme files that came with both programs. Would have saved a ton of frustration.

They ARE included, just a bit hidden

From Kelsey Readme (section III of the 1.5 version)
"TALK FIXER
Unfortunately, sometimes when multiple MODs are installed and
uninstalled, funky things happen to the strings associated with a mod
NPC's name, his select/confirm text, and so forth.
If this should happen to Kelsey, select him and press the K key. This
should correct the problem."

From Tashia Readme (the last paragraph on version 2.05)
"If for some reason Tashia's name and sounds in your saved game got messed up (happens when you reinstall mods in a different order), just initiate dialog with Tashia and tell her that she looks odd. That should fix the problem."

Yes: the Kelsey Talk Fixer is stuck in the middle of the readme, right after Flirting, under the heading of Gameplay Notes--which IMO makes little sense. It should be up under Installation, or under a separate heading for Bugs and Fixes. As for Tashia, the last paragraph in the notes isn't the best place to put something like this, either.

Mind, my comments are certainly not meant to disparage the excellent efforts of the dev teams involved in both products. I just think they could have handled the issue of problems rather better than they did.

Neither were mine meant to imply anything like that. Forgive my latin-american English for leading you to understand otherwise!
