Jaheria Romance

I've been trying to do the Jaheria romance but having major problems. I're read many of the previous threads about the subject but still can't seem to get anywhere. I'm trying to get the romance going strong maybe use that
CLUAConsole:SetGlobals("JaheriaRomance","global",1 )
to get it to go faster because I want it to go quickly. I read something about a download somewhere, what's the story on that?

This is how to do it to the best of my current understanding.
1) get Jaheria out and join party
2) go see dead Kalhid
3) now it gets fuzzy because it is not linear, a few things happen but I do not know the right order.
a) buy her a neclace from the fat merchant in the docks
b) do the montaron quest from Xzar at the docks

Should I wait after we get out before going to the docks. After the docks do I wait longer. And what is this about realtime and gametime?

Romances progress in real time, not game time. But the problem is, the Harper Quest for Jaheira is tied to her romance, and it progresses in game time, according to the number of days that have passed in your game. If you get the two out of order, you get stuck in the romance. This is kinda tricky, because if you rest a lot, gametime passes quicker, and the quest can outrun the romance.

The way I did it, is use the pause button. if you hit the pause and come back in an hour or so and up-pause it, you should get a romance dialog. Some dialogs are event triggered, so if after you have paused the game and still haven't gotten a dialog for awhile, try resting outdoors.

As far as what dialogs occur when, and the more technical side of things, someone else will be more help than me.

*looks around for Sabre or Sojurner*

You can find about any download you need to for this game in the BG Crossraods thread at the top of this forum. It has tones of really cool links.

Jaheira's romance is very buggy, so you might want to download the Updated Improved Jaheira Romance/Harper Plot from Baldurdash - go here if you have Soa only, and go here if you have ToB installed.

Jaheira's Romance Variables

The main variables involved in her romance are:
  • JaheiraRomanceActive - variable used to determine the state of her romance
  • JaheiraRomance - romance timer
  • LoveTalk - local variable controlling her romance dialogs

Expiring the timer by setting it to 1 via the console generally forces the next dialog except when:
  • You're in the wrong area - fix this by moving to the appropriate area
  • Your party needs to rest first
  • Her romance is waiting on an event, such as the next phase of the Harper Plot
  • Combination of the above
  • You haven't applied the patch and you hit a point where her romance won't advance due to scripting errors

The basic rule of thumb is if you haven't had any romance dialogs from her in a while, move your party to an outdoor area such as the D'Arnise Hold or Druid Grove and rest. Buying her the amulet is not necessary.

Is there any chapter qualification for the romance? For the quest where she is summoned to the harper hold? are these the same?

If so what chapter?

There's not a chapter qualification so much as there is a chapter disqualification. Jaheira's romance won't advance in chapters 4,5 or 7 - though it will impact several normally-occurring events.

Jaheira Romance

IN addition to the time factor, you can also speed along the romance a couple of other ways. If you have already given her the locket and done the harper quests and are at least in Chapter 3, (say 20+ days) go to just outside Firkraags dungeon (ie in the open air) and rest.

If you are lucky you will be ambushed by a party that tries to take her captive. If you offer yourself instead you get in a arrow in you; but she will thank you alot. Then a harper messenger will come for you and you get to go the hideout where they will try to imprison you - all good to advance it.

Also, when in the underdark and you help the drow whatever her name, don't sleep with her as it annoys Jaheira. Just say there is someone from Urst Natha

The first time I played the game through I tried the Jaheira romance and it got stuck. The real time vs. game time thing got me, I spent too much time doing the Firkraag, D'arnise Hold, Shadow Dragon stuff and when I got back to Athkatla the things that had to happen there never happened. (i.e. Jaheira never left my party for a day, etc) the only other romance thing I got was Jaheira ticked off when I slept with the girl in the underdark. It kind of ticked me off, but since then I have been doing the Viconia and Aerie romances, so it will be a while before I play the game again and do the Jaheira romance, maybe next time.

probably u didnt rest outdoors at the right time?
this is needed to get both the harper quest and romance go on, when she doesnt talk for longer time, rest in umar hills, temple ruins, windspear hills or d'Arnise keep outside. druids grove does not work i think, as well as athkatla, trademeet or the inside of any dungeon.

this condition kinda sux, when thinking about it, how many times a game would u rest at one of those places? normally, i'd say never.

Yeah, like I said, I already finished that game so it will be a while before I am in a position to romance Jaheira again, but you are correct, 99% of the time I was resting INSIDE a dungeon (thats when you need to) so the romance and Harper quests never happened. I didn't know at the time and Versus books was pretty worthless so it never happened.

The Harper plot will only occur in chapters 2, 3, and 6.
