Items just disappear!

A couple of times, I've had items just simply diappear from my character's/NPC's gear: bracers of defense, swords, even that spider figurine. I haven't installed the offical patches; is this problem something that the patches will take care of, is it something anyone has experienced before or is it just me. Help!

It is not unusual to drop items (as opposed to them disappearing) if your characters pack is full. For instance, if you use the spider figurine, once the daily charge is spent it will be removed from your quick slot and placed back in your inventory. If your characters inventory is full, the item will be dropped to the floor. They should complain about not being able to carry any more though...

You probably encountered a hakeashar or something called like that (anyway, it looks like a "ghost").

Its possible that the creature takes some of your equipement away when attacking...

The latest patches indeed solve this.

I guess its time to get the patches. Are the official patches enough to fix this problem?

I think they are, and if not, there is also a Baldurdash fixpack.....check here: http://www.baldurdash.org/

The Baldurdash fixpack fixes quite alot of things (and bugs ) actually.

About Hakeashars

I thought that Hakeashars were ment to destroy items. It says so in the spell description in the game. Still, from what I've experienced, that was fixed with the official SoA/ToB patch. Can anyone confirm this?

For the official patches go to Bioware:
SoA
ToB

Or you can use Baldurdash... Heck for a while they had more bugs fixed than Bioware

Also, if you or your party members run around in panic (ie. because of fear spells, near death etc), they drop items.

You shouldn't use official patch or Baldurdash, best is to install both. Install official patch first and Baldurdash fixpack afterwards, and if you want to try a mod those come after the fixpack For more information about Mods see The BG reference crossroads (NO SPAM)

Thanks to everybody for your help. I'll try it this weekend and then restart (yet again).
