Talking Imoens Belt - What does it do?

I've played this game through twice, but I still don't know what that belt Imoen is wearing at the beginning of the game (the one that can't be removed) does/did.

Have I missed something?

It also prevents Irenicus and Bodhi from dying early in the game.

Why do they need a belt for that?

The belt is the reson for why they don't die. They're not gods so they have to die, and the belt protects them from dying.

To make some key characters (Imoen, Irenicus, Bodhi, etc...) impossible to be killed until its their time, if Imoen died before getting out of that area, she would no be teleported by the cowled wizards, the same goes for bodhi until chapter 6.
Its called "Imoen belt" because that object was called by the developers that way and they keep the name.
Its just to preserve the story line.

Yes it works. You loose HP until you have only one left, just make sure you equip to the belt slot not an inventory slot 'cause you can't move it.

You guys kept sayin' it keeps Imoen from dying, well I choose "I'll press the button" from the Djin, early in Irecnics's dungeon, and he summoned a Ogre Mage, I sucked at that time in BGII so my Imoen DIED, yes she died, fall on to the ground and can't get up w/o a resurrction
