Help needed: Limited Wish

I've searched the forums for something concerning my little problem but (sigh) no luck.

In short, I'm unable to generate the diaglogue option which initiates the Gong quest.

This is my second BG2 play-thru and I totally forgot about this quest the first time around. I'm currently in Chapter 6, having just recently emerged from the Underdark.

Of course I'm using potions to amp up my WIS to 18 before reading the scroll. I've tried casting the scroll with my PC (Sorc), his projected image, Jan and Haer Dalis...nothin.

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thats strange, you need to select the 1 time only wishes in the first dialog option, and then there should be the option to give me a quest or adventure unlike any I've had before. IIRC that option doesn't even depend on wisdom, but try to make sure that the person with 18 WIS is the dude talking to the genie.

You know what? I think that's it.

First of all, by now, I've killed them all. I even tried to kill Drizzt and the gang but Keldorn turned on me (call it an experiment).

Second, I believe the principal reward for doing that particular quest is a +2 boomerang dagger which I've had in my inventory for ages already.

Thanks Taurn, mystery (probably) solved.

So now, the next question becomes, what did I miss out on? Please tell me the Gong quest didn't have major XP and lots of magic item goodness!

Confirmed.

Just found a detailed walkthru for that particular quest.

I killed Captain Dennis and his crew ages ago. That will frustrate the Gong quest and you'll never get the option from the Djin afterwards.

That sucks cause it looks like I lost out on about 13,000 XP per party member.

Shizzle!

I haven't killed captain Dennis yet, he and his band are still standing around but the Djinn doesn't give me the option. Do I need to cast from the scroll instead of my mage (Nalia)?

Try to have a party member with high wisdom initiate the dialogue with the summoned djinn before he starts talking to Nalia.

Or simply drink a Potion of Insight. There are qute a few scattered around, you know.

As far as I remember, the quest xp reward for this particular quest is 16500 xp per party member, so...avoid killing people.
