| | | Has anyone? Has anyone tried a Fighter/Mage/Cleric? Sure, there's plenty of weapon limitation, but why isn't this class used that often? Is this class all that great?

| | | I think most people avoid the triple classes because of the slow level progression. Two class multiclass characters tend not to do the job of either class very well and triple-class characters advance even slower.

| | I tend to separate the three. As HLD mentioned, triple classes, while good for soloing as they level up faster, are IMO jack of all trades and master of none.
When I play with a good party, Aerie performs the role of mage/cleric perfectly. As for fighters, you always have Minsc or Mazzy. If you are playing evil, you have the combination of Edwin/Viccy/Korgan - simply more lethal compared to F/M/C.
F/M/T and F/M/C classes are ok if you love a challenge or are a soloist. |

I shall refrain from even getting started on talking about monks as this thread is about triple class. However, in case anyone's interested, there is a fairly recent solo monk discussion here.

| | Yep, I'm exactly the same. Only use the f/m/t when going solo, otherwise they really don't level up enough. Even if I'm only taking 2 characters thru the game I won't use a 3 way multiclass. The f/m/c isn't all that great as a solo because the cleric is really geared up as a party healer/buffer. With no party there really isn't a need for healing ****Slight Spoiler***** due to certain regen equipment found very early in the game if you are part thief.
When I'm going solo I would prefer to have the backstab, hide in shadows and most recently traps with the f/m/t over the healing that a f/m/c can offer.
I only just started using traps in my last solo game............... man even just the normal snares at high levels can really knock the enemy around! Let alone when you start using the Tob HLA traps I've always tried to aviod them due to the game AI being so bad when it comes to traps................... taking out the surprise at the bottom of watchers keep took about 2 seconds after laying traps all over the place certain proved that point :P

When I played a f/m/t i found the timestop trap together with the timestop spell a killer-combo.
First place the trap, and then cast timestop, now cast spells that remove the enemy's protections, and before the timestop runs out, cast another, now cast some good killer spells.
Imagine, as a lich you get out of you're coffin, and you hear a "click" next you are totally unprotected, and magic missiles and other spells fly right toward you.
You never know what hit you

| | | Regen Item (Spoiler) Ribald in the adventurer's mart has a ring of regeneration that you can pick-pocket. I usually don't put any points in pick-pocket and just buy 2 potions of master-theivery from him, (drink them), and then steal his ring. |

| | | Yes, it was the ring from Ribald I was talking about.......... You can take it from him as soon as you get out of the starting dungeon.

| | | I never play F/M/C because I never play clerics. There just isn't a good reason in BG2, except for the experience of doing the stronghold quest and that is rather disappointing.
Spoiler
With regard to pick-pocketing; there is also a set of gloves in the copper coronet that can be helpful

| | | Triple Class. Just finished a f/mu/t lot of fun to play but limited imho, because they do not get 9th level spells unless you cast them off a scroll.
Never tried a f/mu/c. CLAM's (cleric/mu) used to be the toughest class in the original NWN might have to try one, toying with the idea of going through as a wild mage too. |

| | Sirfin is right, the only way you can get level 9 spells with a f/m/t is if you have some sort of patch added on. Like Sabre's found here: http://www.users.bigpond.com/qtnt/abilities.htm You will need to have TOB, it also allows you to use the mage HLA that normally arn't avaliable for you to select.
There's also a similar one for the f/m/c there
