| | Fighter-Magi First off, I'd like to thank Buck Satan for making this kick arse site. Secondly, to all the moderators who keep this forum in check...now to my question:
I read the strat guide to Fighter-Magi(magus, mage;magi sounds better ), and observed my cousin play a chaotic good f/m using everything the guide said. Unfortunately, she was rather weak at the start because she was dual wielding long swords. I found the damage she was dealing just wasnt good enough. Can any of you give me advice on how to play the fighter-mage? Like, weapons/armor and spells. I watched my cousin play and she got torn up by the shadow dragon because her level was not high enough (understandable of course). As for armor, i think vecna's robe and the asyleferund would suit my f/m fine. Weapons are another issue. I am making an elven fighter mage and long swords are tempting but so are bows and flails (FoA!). Maybe I should use a shield.
Thanks to all!
Cheers

| | | Dual-wielding is a good way to go - make sure you put 3 *'s into two-weapon style or you'll be fighting with severe penalties. Choose whatever weapon combo suits your style. There also happens to be an outstanding staff for a mage in the game.
Must-have spells include: Vocalize, Stoneskin, & Spell Immunity. If you plan to have your fighter-mage melee a lot, Improved Haste + Tenser's can work wonders. For dealing with some baddies, Skeleton Warriors (Animate Undead) and Mordenkainen's Swords are among some of your best summons. Breach + Lower Resistance + Pierce Magic will drop most enemies' defenses. Good high-level spells include Mislead (esp. in combination with Spell Immunity: Divination), Project Image, Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting and Power Word: Blind. Equipment
Robe of Vecna
Amulet of Power
Giant-Strength Girdle
Ring of Wizardry
Boots of Speed
Cloak of Mirroring

| | | As far as weapons go, you can prep yourself for a days fighting (3 rest periods) merely by casting twice the spell Enchanted Weapon and have two +3 longswords
spoiler...
After freeing hendak from his cell in the copper coronet by killing the slavers you can buy (or steal) the blade of roses (+3 longsword), you can get Daystar from a secret room inside the in located within the city gates *beware of the lich*

| | | There are a bunch of good long swords in the game (SoA):
Blade of Roses - sold in the Copper Coronet
Daystar - its special ability makes it worthwhile to keep
FlameTongue - this is a +4 sword, so you can whack demi-liches with it
Dragonslayer
Ras +2
Adjatha The Drinker +2 - slowly heals you with every hit & protects from charm spells
Namarra +2
Equalizer - assembled by Cromwell

| | Don't dualwield with a f/m! This may sound strange, but there is one item in the game that beats any dualwielding combo.
The Staff of the magi - wear this with a cloak of nondetection (both are available in chapter 2) and you are pretty near invincible! now if only you could backstab with SoM |

| | Always cast Remove Fear (cleric spell) before dealing with dragons.
