| | | Extra vendor in the slums Hi
Just wondering, really. Last time I played through BG2, there was a vendor standing around outside the door to the Copper Coronet in the slums. I don't know when he appeared, or why. It was certainly before I had enough gold to buy some of his rather nifty things.
This time he's not there and I'm nearly done with SoA.
I probably don't need him now, anyway, but I was wondering what it was that brought him into existence in the first place. I'm sure I wasn't imagining it |

| | | This merchant was included on the bonus CD that came with the Shadows of Amn limited edition, when the game was just released.
If you have the CD you can install the content or possibly find it as a download from someone else. |

He's actually inside the CC if you have the bonus merchants installed. If I'm reading the post above correctly, it sounds as though the merchant in question is actually just outside of the doors of the CC....
@Shine,
was the merchant inside the CC or outside of it?

| | Well, that would mean that I've uninstalled him in-between games, which I have not. Nor do I think my game is a limited edition. It's just the four-CD plus ToB expansion set.
However, I did add a couple of mods before starting this game, so perhaps he got dislodged somehow.
I am seeing a few rather peculiar bugs (i.e. mousing over a special abilities icon when selecting a new skill upon levelling up shows a line from a dialogue, rather than the name of the spell, and the two bears summoned up by a cleric also produce a line of text - something about being tortured by Irenicus.)
I will probably have to do a whole reinstall before starting a new game - those bears are my favourite meat shield |

| | | The bonus merchants (one inside the Copper Coronet and the other one inside the Adventurer's Mart) can be added to your game by adding two small files to your /OVERRIDE directory. I can't think of any mod that would overwrite them (or erase them), but then again, when you're dealing with amateur mods, anything can happen.
As for the peculiar bugs you are experiencing, it sounds to me like your DIALOG.TLK file is corrupted. Some mods replace it entirely, and other mods make modifications to it. If one mod tried to alter a modified version of the DIALOG.TLK file, some of the line number references might be wrong and that might be why the wrong lines are appearing in odd places. Most Weidu mods don't alter the DIALOG.TLK file; I think they add extensions to it in their own subdirectories, or else they add extra files to the /OVERRIDE directory where they usually don't conflict with anything else (unless they overwrote an existing file that was already in the /OVERRIDE directory). |

| | | Ah, that's good info.
I'll blame it on the Edwin romance files, which are the last thing I added. Looks like I'd better do a clean install when I'm done with him.
Question: if I have SoA, ToB and the ToB patch, do I need the Baldurdash fix as well?
Besides the NPC mods, I have Ease of Use and the Banterpack. |

| | The G3 BG2 FixPack, which is highly recommended to be installed, contains the Baldurdash fixes among many more.

Joluv the Bonus Merchant is located inside the CC, by the southern-most door and that yummy barbeque pit.
Once when I was goofing around with an old savegame, I started a combat with someone in that area of the CC. Afterwards, that Joluv dude wasn't there. I looked all around the CC... no Joluv.
I reloaded and replicated my actions. I noticed that when the combat started, Joluv booked out that southern-most door. I left the CC and went outside into the Slums... and there he was, chillin' outside the door.
Maybe Shine when you first entered the CC, you got in a fight and didn't notice Joluv take off out the door, and the first time you noticed him, he was outside the CC. Then in a subsequent game, you didn't see him *outside*, because he is normally *inside*.
Just a thought.

| | Oh, hilarious. You're right.
There he is, warming his butt by the firepit! I guess I ought to look at "commoners" more closely.
While I recall getting into a bar brawl in the south end of the Copper Coronet, I don't remember chasing anyone out the door in the previous run-through, but I suppose I must have.
Or maybe he got caught up in one of those pile-ups that happen when you run through a door when not in formation and everyone tries to exit at the same time.
Thanks |

| | | very minor spoiler not intending to create a wayward thread here but it reminds me of a funny episode recently...highlight: when I went after Daystar and the battle moved from the basement and up into the main part of the inn I heard screams and everyone bolted for the nearest exit except for one old drunk man cackling. It was priceless.
My apologies for taking us off course but this thread reminded me of that battle...

| | I think this thread is done, anyway
Some of the best chuckles are to be had because of the way random sound bits come together.
Recently, Jan had a rather cutting remark for Edwin and JUST as he finished with it, Lilacor said something like "ouch, that's gotta leave a mark" |

| | | Yes, one of the best assets of the BG series (especially SoA) is the huge amount of work they put into the background and commoners. Lots of games wouldn't have done that. If you get the chance, try to draw that fight to the main floor and see if you can re-create it. It had me in tears.
