Question Best dual class import from BG1?

I'm interested to know if any of you have gone back to BG1 to develop a character.

IMHO it is not worh dual classing as 'late' as in BG2, though I am impressed with some of the combinations people have thought up.

How's about this:

Inactive - Thief level 5 (10K exp.)
Active - Fighter level 8 (at import).

9 (count 'em!) weapon proficiencies to begin with!!!

Stats:
Str 19 (OK, so I use *one* tome)
Dex 18 (is the most important or what???)
Con 16 (little point in this being higher)
Int 9
Wis 12
Cha 9 (gotta love that ring of human influence!)

I now have a kick-ass fighter who can sneak/backstab at x3 and complement another dualled thief (nalia or imoen). And all for only 10k exp from BG1.

Again IMHO, this removes the need for a potentially weak character (a thief) and frees the slot for whatever your preference is.

What're your thoughts/experiences? http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif

For one thing if you have a higher con you can get more hp. Only for fighters. And I love it to have 18 cha so that you have another ring slot. Ring of gaxx and ring of prot+2 or another ring of gaxx.

And (sorry don't know how to edit) you used the best tome of them all you cheater. If your a archer kind a player you can even equip the srong arm. Not that its that good but just to see the advantages of 19 strenght
besides the attack bonuses.

Well, yes. But (I knew somone would say that)...

Thieves only get the +2 bonus for con 16. Since I am dualling at level 5, my fighter would only get the extra +1 or +2 for 4 levels or something(6-9 or 10). I know every hp counts but I felt honour bound to minimise my fiddling. Thats why I distributed the other tomes to my fellow adventurers (but kept strength for me http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).

Yeah I know but 1 out of 6 ain't bad. Its not like I edited all stats to 25. Besides its in the game, so why not - at least I didn't go nuts. Cloudkilled any dragons lately http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. Pot? Kettle? http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Plus I'd only use the girdle of Hill giant strength anyway, now that goes to someone else!

Haven't decided on the thieving stats yet (starting over you see). Not sure whether to make the thief a regular, a swashbuckler or a bounty hunter.

There's plenty of potions in BG 2 so I think I can spread the abilities quite thin. I like having 2 dualled thieves (nalia/imoen) to cover all the angles.

EDITING - at the top of your post there are a few icons - one is a pen that will let you edit.

If you are stil going to dual class i recommend being a normal thief. Consider the disadvantages for the others. Bounty 20 % per level very irritating. Swashbuckler no backstabbing. More irritating. Normal thief little profincies but that should go away with fighter so take a normal thief. btw do you have something against people how cloudkill dragons. If so just tell me were you life and i'll beat the crap outta you.

Ah but one must also weigh the advantages my young carrot-cruncher.

Less % for a bounty-dude? you lose 25% at level 5 but gain 15% set traps and the special traps ability.

Swashers lose backstab (BIG bummer) but would also gain -2 to AC and +2 to THACO at level 5.

Sorry to all you assassins. Poison seems like a waste of time when compared to the others. Good against humanoid mages.

Nothing against cloudkilling dragons, oh gaseous one. Just ribbing you a bit. http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

WHat have you got against rabbits?

Get you luscious angel-face sister on. http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/wink.gif

If I were you(which btw I wouldn't want to be http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) I would do a lot in open locks and set traps,I like set traps I was level 10 with my main char and just kicked the sorry ass of the demilich whick made my even more onstopable.btw how much xp do you get from him I didn't get any arghhhhhhh. If you want a good detect trapper just take Imoen and give her the ring of danger sense this should give her over a hundred.
Another btw which is your favorite npc. Mine edwin he jsut changed into EDWINA http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You get 20 % extra if your a bounty hunter.
btw I don't like assasin either because of the 15 % per level. Swasbucklers do get the bonus but if you want to backstab you can't pick them. So its the choice between swasbuckler and regular. Well its your char.My sister is still sleeping. What time is it with you?

Thats a tough Q. Best in a fight or best character?

I actually think they are all pretty mediocre. Its a tough call between Keldorn and Minsc for fightin'. And a tough call between viconia and jaheira for character.

That's funny about Edwina, http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. BG1 had the girdle of masculinity/femininity but it had no scripted impact on the game!

Regular/swash get 25, bounty 20 and assassin (ass?!) 15. For a level 5 thief I lose 25% *overall* as a bounty hunter but gain 15 in set traps.

Its 11:40 here. Aren't you 1hr ahead? Sleep ins and Holidays eh? I remember when I was a young lad...

blahblahdroneblah...

...and the elephant was on top y'know...

No I don't mean best char or whatever I just mean funniest char. Two btw Edwina just kicked that elf butt in the copper coronet. Had to reload because evryone started kicking me. And I always changed Imoen into a male just for the fun but it didn't change anything exept appearance for which I don't care.
