Question Beholder Cave in Underdark

Is it really necessary (or really profitable) to kill all of the Beholders in the Underdark cave ? They don't bring much experience, so if there is nothing valuable I will just skip this location, because encountering 3x Beholders, 1x Elder Orb and 3x Gauths is just not very pleasant... http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif)

Agreed, I got the eyestalk I needed, tried to search around some and simply got tired of the overwhelming odds. As far as I can tell, there is nothing else worthwhile in there.

I ripped through the place with Minsc wearing the Cloak of Mirroring.

The first fight where I couldn't keep everyone else out of the way was tough and I needed to get a Chaotic Commands to deal with the Mind Flayers in there, but the beholders themselves weren't any trouble. If you have the cloak (or Shield of Balduran) they're really easy for the exp they give. 9000 for a Gaulth and 14000 for an Elder Orb adds up fast.

No goodies though.

Actually I thought about submitting it before it was up here, but thought it was too obvious. Since people are still having trouble with them, I guess not.

Now, if you go straight to the portal in Spellhold does that immediately dump you into the Underdark without giving you a chance to get the cloak? If you do that and don't have the shield I can see these could be tough fights. (Simulacrum/Protection from Magic or Spell Immunity: Necromancy would still work well though).

Down the bottom there is a fight with mind flayers (it is previously mentioned) and i came round from the bottom right. The flayers were firing sionoc blast at the guaths unfortunately all my people got caught meanwhile none of the opponents could do damage to me because they are using magic - which i was blocking to a degree - i should have catalogued how long i was stuck there, eventually Aerie got free and rained some spells down but all in all it took about 20-25 minutes, probably the longest fight i have ever had on BG 1 or 2.

Thumbs up

The sling of Avoreen +4 can be found in a wall panel somewhere in the Beholder Dungeon in the Underdark. I think it was either in x=1216, y=792 or x=771, y=609. (I'm not sure).
