Question basic questions...needing answers

greetings to all.... *pleasantries exchanged*

now...down to business.

1. is there a good 'monster faq' available. I am having difficultly with the Gauths in the lower sewers. Really, I just want their stats and resistances and whatnot so I can figure out what to do, but...if you have any helpful hints, I would appreciate that too.

2. Also, I seem to be doing an awful lot of side quests that are 'distracting' me from the main quest. While I am having a great time and getting lots of loot, I can't help wondering if by the time I get to Imoen, it will be too late. Is there a time table?

I had other questions, but they've slipped my mind. hmph. oh well.

thanks

2.

Unless you get a message about being somewhere at a specific time there is no time limit.
As regarding Imoen - take all the time you want, she isen't going anywhere

1. Uhh well, GameBanshee (here) as some Beholder strategies to help you...
Basically Gauths are small beholders casting Slow and more annoyingly Cause Serious wounds at the speed of a machinegun
So basic strategies against them revolves on spell turning/spell Immunity/Globe of Invuln. and bashing them (swords & spells)...
They have no special resistance IIRC, they can't be backstabbed however...

2. Do as you wish, you can make sidequests either in chapter 2,3 or 6, so make your mix. Just make sure your party is 12th lvl approx when embarking to spellhold.
OTOH doing ALL sidequests in chapter 2-3 (that was what I've done in my first game) nets you *too* powerful chars after, and chapters 5-7 become somewhat short...

Hope it helps

You're currently doing the Unseeing Eye quest. There is a very nice shield which comes in handy during this quest...

The only problem with getting Imoen late is that when you get her she is usually between 11th and 13th level (I've never seen her higher than 13th) so if you do all the side quests in the city and surrounding areas then she will be some way behind the rest of the party when you pick her up and with no side quests left to finish she will only go up a couple of levels before the grand finale

Thank you both.

now I must return to slaying of monsters...maybe I would have had better luck last night if it hadn't been 3am...

i also read portions of what appears to have been numerous lengthy discussions of the pros and cons regarding rescuing Imoen in a timely fashion. very interesting.

merry death,

the shield in reference is a shield that reflects beholder rays. If this is your first time through the game, don't get it. Basically, it turns beholders and gauths into goblins with more hit points. Take the time to develop a strategy to learn how to fight them and discover the strengths and weaknesses of your current party.

...or, pay a visit to Roger the Fence in the Temple sewers and stock up on some potions of Magic Protection.
