Jester can wreak havoc on enemies at higher levels, as his confusion song increases. A fun tactic I used was sending my invisible Jester into a group of enemies, after they were all sufficiently confused I would bring in the tanks to mow them down. Jester is a good bard to play as they have no restrictions on pickpocketing and their skill is about 180. Add the pickpocketing gloves from the drawer in The Copper Coronet and you can steal whatever u want. Also the lore value of jester means never need to identify anything with spell.

In bg2 I have played all of the kits and in bg1 I played as a true bard. It is hard to decide which one I like better cause they are all good and you should definately try one.

I played as a Skald, and I have to say that he is very fun to play with. If your AC is about -12 then you can lower it down with his snogs to about -22. And that is totally cool.

The Skald may be great if you have a large party and want to give everyone combat bonuses with a strum of the chord, but the Blade is awesome if you have a small group or you're going solo.

Defensive spin lowers his AC by -10 at the drop of a hat. He can't move while he's in it, but he can still cast spells such as "Stoneskin" and "Mirror Image" which will make him virtually unhittable. Offensive spin gives him an extra attack and +2 combat bonuses as well as extra speed and maximum damage for 24-seconds. Much better than the Kensai's 'Kai.'

Another great thing, and this is about bards in general, is that their spellcasting level by the XP cap is higher even than mages, it's level 23. That allows them to put level 6 spells like Tenser's Transformation into their Contingency--try that spell with a bard, and he changes from level 23 thief to level 23 fighter!

I've played both the blade and skald before, and I must say that they're a lot of fun. I haven't tried a jester yet, but I know of someone who actually took one solo (chronicled in a thread about the adventures of Bob the Jester over at BG Dungeon).

The Bard has been my preferred class for quite some time now. I actually favor the true class bard. In general, I use the bard as I would use a Fighter/Mage, often equipping him with a two-handed sword to make him a bit more warrior-like.

IMO, the bard has it all: Levels up fast, can throw spells, limited thief skills, can use all weapons, good stronghold quest, gets a familiar...

I tried playing a Skald, but it was too powerful In my party i had Korgan, Viconia, Valygar....with the chant bonus, they were unbeatable!!!!!!
So there was no challenge......

My first solo was a blade and it was very cool. The spins in combination with defensive spells make him an excellent fighter and the higher level make him a reasonable spellcaster. (Though the level 23 casting is not always true as most spells are not implemented above level 20, and Tenser's is not correct above level 18).
