20 hour trip, 8 hour return??

Has anyone else noticed this? Later in the game it still takes me around 20 hours to get to de'Arnise keep from anywhere in the city, but it only takes me 8 hours to come back.

What's up with that? Global current? Must be one hell of a current. Maybe it's all uphill one way and downhill the other? And we just lie down and roll back to the city?
This takes place in most other places on the map also, but the Athkatla/de'Arnise route shows the biggest difference.

I didn't notice this inconsistency with BG II. I did notice it in IceWind Dale, though. Getting from Kuldahar to Dorn's Deep, and back. One way takes 80 hours, the other takes 118. Very weird ...
