Well, in this case I do. Most of the items in BG1 will not transfer over to BG2 if you take your save gave from BG1 and import it. If you want some of those cool items like I always like the Spider's Bane, you're out of luck without cheating. As far as importing the save game, correct me if I'm wrong, everyone, but I believe you have to copy the save game file from the BG1 folder and paste it into the save game file in the BG2 folder? then you start a new SOA game, go to import button, import from "saved game", check to make sure you've got the right character, and then finish out the character creation process as normal.
There ARE a few items that will be placed somewhere in Irenicus's dungeon at the beginning of BG2 if you have them at the end of BG1(I don't know where, just look everywhere), and since you asked about the Big Metal Unit, I will say that the Golden Pantaloons ARE one of those items. (There are other threads that talk about this and a great investigation on the topic of the pantaloons on Balderdash.)

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do (your giftedness with punctuation doesn't make it that easy), but I'm gonna take a stab in the dark at it and say that you can only export a character from BG1 into BG2, not the other way around. But here's a tip: uses periods and commas, especially when asking questions; it's the only way people will understand you.
