Xp crash

I've used the search option but didn't come up with a solution for this problem. After the intro movie the game constantly crashes and I get a message that an error occured in the BGmain.exe file. I've ran the game before perfectly on XP so I've no idea why this is happening now.
The only thing I've noticed is that the installation is never 100% complete when it's done, but if my memory serves me right than this did already happen before when BG ran perfectly and didn't affect anything.

When your installation previously worked, were you using the same video card and resolution? Have you added any applications and/or games since that time, as well? It could be that any of these changes is the culprit. Since you can't remove a video card, try temporarily removing as many active programs as possible (screensavers, virus checkers, etc) while trying to run BG.
