| | | Will this work (check it out, this is probably a fresh one!)? It's actually a 3 part question:
1) Can my CG Gnome Cleric/Illusionist don the Helm of Opposite Alignment, become LE, and then wear the Robes of the Evil Archmagi?
2) Can I then cast "Remove Curse", take the helmet off (keeping the Evil Robes on), and put on a different helmet?
3) When I import to BG2, all of my stuff would be removed, and my alignment shifted back to CG, wouldn't it?
TIA

2. When you remove the helmet, your character's alignment will return to Chaotic Good. Any items that he is not permitted to wear will be shaded red. However, the items he's wearing won't fall off. He can continue to wear the Robe of the Evil Magi as long as you don't take it off or he doesn't get killed and drop it. The same thing happens if, for example, you put a sword in a Cleric's hand with Gatekeeper and then start the game. If you switch weapons, I don't think you can use it anymore.
3. When the Helm of Opposite Alignment is removed, your character's alignment will be whatever it was when you created him. So if you import him into BG2, his alignment will be Chaotic Good.
Generally speaking, I don't agree with alignment restrictions for a lot of items. I can see why evil creatures shouldn't be allowed to touch items reserved for good characters ("It burns! It burns!"), but I don't see why a good character couldn't use an evil item. I just think the item itself should permanently change the character's alignment to evil. For example, any character who chooses to wear the Ring of Gaxx in BG2 should have his alignment changed to evil. That's just my opinion, of course. |

| | | I worked just like you said, but when I slept, the robes were put into my inventory.
I redid this little strategy for the final battle, otherwise it would have been really frustrating, time consuming, and expensive to do.

| | Wouldn't it be easier just to wear the robe of the good archmagi?

You might not have that much gold if you play a no-reload game and play it safe. (I don't think there's any option to steal from High Hedge, and you probably wouldn't want to try in a no-reload game, anyway.) The Robe of the Evil Magi, on the other hand, is acquired by killing an enemy the game requires you to kill, so you don't have to buy it. I think I see where Klorox is coming from. |
