What version of BG you got?
The walkthrough you're looking at is probably referring to the US version.
In the US version there is a +1 dagger in Candlekeep and a ring of wizardry in a tree at the Friendly arm inn.
I have the Euro/UK version of BG and can find neither of these - the only ring of wizardry is **********SPOILER*********** (heh heh, after all this time http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/wink.gif)

In a wizard's house, SW corner of Baldur's Gate, next to the flaming fist garrison.

Hit the l key to bring up the location marker. (Mouse pointer) Warning this can get to be a pain. The ring is the hardest IMO to find...it's located close to a rock.
US version.
Here is the location for the ring.... (x=2552, y=3758,). NOTE: not available after the patch is applied.(I had the patch and it was still there..)
Here is a wand.....(X: 187, Y: 2747). Nashkell mines has a tree stump in the top left corner. It has a wand in it.
And here is the armor....(X: 187, Y: 2747) Town of Nashkell.

@Weasel: Shift+x brings up the location marker?
It doesn't in my game? Do I have to type that in the Cluaconsole?

Hmm. Never patched it because I had so few problems. The one time I *did* patch it the entire game cr*pped out!
Funny eh? http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif

In a wizard's house, SW corner of Baldur's Gate, next to the flaming fist garrison. | You can get a +1 dagger in Candelkeep in the EU-version.
If you have 18 CHA and bring the crossbow bolts to the guy in the guardhouse - he'll award you with a +1 dagger.
Besides Hull will be much nicer to you if you have 18 CHA http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/smile.gif

It is after the patch.
I've never played BG1+ToSC without.
I bought it together, and patched it right away.

Which BG1 and patch are you people talking about? When I bought a copy of BG1 it was already patched!?! (I matched the version number with patch number; boy was I glad that I didn't have to download a 15 MB file...).
I didn't find any of these items (sob).

I only found three secret stashes.
The one with the RING +1 just east of Candlekeep;
The Ring of Wizzardry at Friendly Arm Inn; and
The Ankheg and pearl in Nashkel.
I've noticed that BG2 has a lot more secret stashes... except they're a little bigger and easier to see.
For example, that skeleton when the guardian golem kills the beholder in the Planar Spehere can be clicked on.
As well as the countless stashes in the beholder caves.
I'd really like a walkthrough that shows ALL secret locations.

The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

There are also more in BG1
IIRC then on one of the first to maps is a diamond, (I think it is the first map) - and on a map in the south there should be a ring of fireprotection.
