What am I doing wrong?

Now then peeps.

I have just killed Davaeorn and finished the chapter, but for some reason I cannot get up to the bridge prior to Baldurs Gate. The map will not let me click on the location. Do I need to go further East then North in order to do this?

Also, my characters are still sitting on LvL 5 nearly six. Should they be at a higher level by now? My fighter only has 65HP for example. Playing on Normal difficulty.

So any help is appreciated.

To get to Baldur's Gate, you have to go through the area north of the Friendly Arm Inn.

As for your party's level, it depends on the number of quests you have done. If your party was 5th or 6th Level when you finished the Cloakwood Mines, you are probably on the right track. Keep in mind that the experience limit is 89,000 experience points per person (161,000 points if you have installed Tales of the Sword Coast). You will gain a lot of experience in Badur's Gate and the new areas that you'll reach in Chapters 6 and 7. I like to do all of the sidequests prior to Chapter 6, including the new quests in Tales of the Sword Coast.

Have you flooded the mines?
As for your experience, like VonDondusaid lvl 5/6 is a decent level to start going into Baldur's Gate. Youd ont get extra exp on higher difficulty, alkthough you get less on easy IIRC.

Hitpoints are based on your characters class (fighters get more then thieves who get more then mages) and your characters constitution.

Also when you level up you roll a dice for new HP.
(example: a fighter with 12 constitution gets between 2 and 11 hp on level up)

Thx for the help guys

Oh and its good to see a Python fan Stilgar

"WELL!!! DONT COME CRYING TO ME WHEN SOMEBODY RUNS AT YOU WITH A BUNCH OF LOGANBERRIES"!!

Ahem....sorry.

Anyway, yes my characters are on the LvL Vondondu mentioned however I have not flooded the mines. I know it was mentioned but how do I do it? I guess I need to go back to the mines then. I'll check out the walkthrough.

And I cannot remember where the area is with the Ankheg nest as I know its a good spot for getting some XP.

Also, on a different point. I have just put TuTu in and what I want to know is, is there a way that I can continue with my saved game from playing with the Baldurs Gate engine. The Baldurs Gate save is in the right folder, but its not on the Load screen when I try to find it? The only thing I can do is start a new game with my Fighter from Baldurs Gate and all his Inventory. There must be a way.
The reason I put tutu in is because it'd be nice to see other than my party on screen (so I can run at 1024).

To flood the mines you need a key from deveron, and on the first level of the mines is a place you can flood them.

The Ankeg's nest is in area1400 (north of the FriendlyArms Inn.

If you ahvent finished BG1 jet I wouldnt recommand installing TuTu, it just makes the game to easy (for example dualwielding is just to powerfull in BG1) And IIRC you have to start a new game for TuTu to work.

Good luck!

Aye thx Stilgar

Have gone back to the mines but I am not sure I have the key. Is flooding the mine essential to the game?

Forget about the Tutu as I did not want to start a new game; besides, its kinda nostalgic to play BG1 at 640

EDIT: BTW whats the easiest way of taking out Wyverns? As when I travel I get attacked and end up running away as they ALWAYS kick my ass!! I have plenty of potions and stuff yet they never seem to be enough from at least one of my party from being taken out (usually my Mage - as hes almost dead with one hit)

Also, I think I may head South again and do the Gnoll Stronghold seeing as I aint done it yet. Have not done Durlags Tower In TotSC as them Battle Horrors are just way to hard for my party to take on, even using clever tactics doesn't seem to work.
And I also cannot ever win the fight in Cloakwood in that spiders nest with the fat wench in the middle, as the Sword Spiders are way too fast, so I gave up after about 7 goes

Yes it is.
You can always use Gatekeeper to edit in the key if you lost it.
It should be on Daveron's body, or in a chest near him i dont remember exactly.
(Gatekeeper is an editing program that can be downloaded
here)

I recommand doing all the area's except the TotsC area's before venturing into the city. As for tactics against wyverns or spiders, just try different tactics.
Fireball (lvl3 mage spell) works great (you can also find a wand of fire in the Ankeg area, or buy a necklace of missiles (cast fireball) at the carnevall.
Remember that you can recharge wands by selling them and buying/stealing them back.

Good luck!

Ok I have done the key thing and flooded the mines.

Now another problem.

I have checked everywhere for an answer to no avail.

When I head directly North from Friendly Arm, to the Ankheg nest area the game starts to load the screen then crashes back to desktop. I get the old "assertion failed blah blah blah" error. Now there is apparently a fix for Windows 98 involving not having CDROM/DVD drives to read-ahead. I am aware of how to do this in Windows 98 having used it countless times, but I run XP Pro so am a little stumped. But I am sure I have seen this in Windows somewhere.

I'll have to check my XP Bible.....

To get the (very helpful) Baldurdash fixes go here. IIRC it fixes any WinXP problems too (BG wasn't meant to run under XP).

Thx Coot I got it last night.

I have read though that to resolve the crashes I need to delete the data in the Cache folder in the BG directory. Problem is, there is no Cache folder in my BG directory only the area files.

Well, I'll just have to see how it goes with Baldurdash installed....thx again guys

Well, I suppose that depends on what order you do things in. For example I have only just gone back to do the Gnoll Stronghold, which was a piece of cake and now I am exploring up the East side of the map. Me thinks I should have done this earlier as I would have leveled up quicker. Although, when I did it I dont think any of my party members were hit more than 4 or 5 times and as you know theres a lot of Gnolls!

I am still fairly new to these RPG's (well played them on and off over the past year, but without much success until now) so I am still learning. I have discovered though that Icewind Dale so far IMO is so much harder than BG for some reason (something to do with the fact in ID there are about 50 million enemies running at you at once)

I have another question.

I have just Dual-Classed Imoen to be a fighter as well. Me thinks this may have been a bad idea. Can she not use her thieving skills anymore, as when I took her armour off to check, none of the buttons were there? Which is a bugger as I want to go back and do Durlags Tower which is full of traps. (Montaron decided to run off when I did Ulcaster). I know I can use spells to find traps, but its so much easier to have the thief do it.
Have I stuffed myself well and truly???
