Ulgoths Beard.

So, I have Baldurs Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast. Though I was wondering when the best time to visit Ulgoths beard was. Ive not long been on chapter 5 and have reached Baldurs Gate city. Is it best to head north and do the TotSC quests now, or hang on and continue with the main quest? Or doesnt it matter at all?

Thanks in advance.

You can go to Ulgoth's Beard anytime, some good iems on sale so it's worth it, just leave the quest until later, two of them are tough to complete. I usually leave them until just before the endgame of the main quest.

I usually do them around the start of chapter 6 or 7,as the main quests are hard even at a higher level.

As you are obvously new to ToSC I would agree with the previous comments.
However, a solo fighter/thief can trash the first part of Durlag's Tower by avoiding conflict and in so doing gets loads of experience, not to mention quite a few very nice items. I've gone in on Level1 and come out Level5. You however won't know who to fight and who to leave well alone so if I were you I'd mainly go to the beard and the tower for a shopping expedition.

Thanks.. I might just go and check the place out and do Durlags tower and the other quests later. Im new to TotSC but not BG. Its just usually I end up thinking about where to go next for to long and dont play the game again, lol. I guess its why I didnt get on with Oblivion.

Spoilers

I did Ulgoth's Beard after finishing all the side quests in the city (Chapter 5), just before initiating the return back to Candlekeep (Chapter 6).

At that point, all my dudes were over 89k XP (the cap without TotSC installed), so level-wise they were ready for the new areas.

Chapter 6 initiates the story's conclusion, so going to the new areas after this point would break the story's momentum.
