| | | Also, if you dispell the claws (a potion could do it), you could have a good number of attacks per round (three if I'm correct).

| | | I'm trying as a solo Mage at the moment and it's, well, slow. So far I've managed the FAI quests (hobgoblins, the two assassins, etc) and also moved to Beregost but the only way I kill anything even at level 3 is by kiting with a sling or hoping a sleep goes off. Any pointers? Admittedly, I haven't played BG1 in a long time and barely remember where to go. I feel like I need to get the Necklace of Missiles and a way to summon some meat shields. |

| | | Use wands. They make the game incredibly easy. As a mage, you should have plenty of gold to spend on recharging them.
Also, if you can charm, you can control the nymphs at the temple next to Bergost and have them kill each other for 2000 exp each, 10000 exp total, with no reputation loss. Also, you get pearls and magical arrows to sell. That should give you a boost to your level. Search for wands though, that's the main piece of advice here.

| | | I'm nearly level 4 after killing the spiders in Beregost (1 commoner got in the way of them though =/). Leveling isn't too bad, but I need to get some good level 2 scrolls to make it worthwhile. Seems like at level 4 Chromatic Orb might become worthwhile if I can get it off vs casters for the blind effect. But so far my sling remains the primary source of my damage, with a magic missile thrown in now and then. I'll be on the lookout for some wands, but so far I haven't made much gold. I haven't done any dungeons sleuthing though either. |

| | | Did you find the Ring of Wizardry at the Friendly Arms in?
Don't buy the wands though, you can easily find them.

| | | Yep, found the ring. I'm thinking I'll head to Nashkel and try to do what I can and search for any wands. I recall a wand of frost somewhere out there. |

| | | Ok, after some thought and research my plan is now:
1) Get the Wand of Frost near Nashkel
2) Buy the Necklace of Missiles
3) Find a scroll of Invisibility somewhere
4) Get the Wand of Monster Summoning from the Valley of the Dead, assuming I can sneak in
From there I'll have a solid array of tools to work with. |

| | | I keep trying different combos, and I'm having a lot of fun.
Here are my personal requirements:
Must be a Berserker, Barbarian, or one of the Short Races (with an 18+ CON).
I can't stand all of the "Horrors" cast at you, as well as the "Hold Persons". Ghouls and Ghasts also. Solo, they're game enders (I never reload).
My requirements handle these situations (being short isn't perfect, but it helps a lot).
I'm doing great with a Dwarf Berserker, a Dwarf Barbarian, and a Gnome Fighter/Illusionist.
The Dwarves regenerate when I travel (20 CON), but I think the Gnome gives me the best chance in the final battle.
I've rolled up two different Human Berserkers. I plan on dual classing one to Thief, and the other to Druid at Fighter level 7. Fighter 7 gets the extra 1/2 ApR, and Thief and Druid are the only classes that exceed level 7 after dual-classing under the TotSC XP cap.

| | | Level 5 now, I managed to get the Wand of Monster Summoning by drawing the Ghasts outside and webbing them in place. I also picked up the Necklace of Missiles and Wand of Frost, so I have a strong arsenal to work with. Now that I'm level 5 I can also cast Skull Trap so I finally have an AOE I can work with. With 5000 gold I'm sitting well so I'm probably going to go north of Beregost and explore a bit, then consider conquering the Naskell mines pretty soon after I recharge the Monster Summoning Wand or Necklace.
It's actually a lot of fun, but you have to be willing to use the sling a lot for a while. Magic Missile sucks until around level 5 when it does 3 missiles, you're better off slinging. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
