| | Party Problems Well, I guess I'm the new guy around here. I have a slight problem. My game got deleted shortly after the end of Chapter 3, and now I'm stuck with who to put into my party in my new game.
I want Me (dwarven Fighter/Thief, Elec), Jaheira, Khalid (Should he be here?), Dynaheir, Adjantis, and Imoen.
My question is, can I get Dynaheir w/o Minsc? I don't want the freaky companion of Boo, but I do need another mage. See my predecament? NE help would be appreciated.
And is Khalid worth keeping? If not, I still wanna keep Jaheira, tho. Oh the problems ...

| | These so-called 'coupled NPC's' are handled efficiently in the following manner: if you want to keep just one, let both of them join you and kill the one you do not like to have in your party! In this way the other will not leave you!
My advice on Khalid:ditch him for either Yeslick or Kivan or Coran!

| | Hmm ... yeah definately Kivan, I already have a fighter/thief, and I really don't wanna replace him
Can I get Dynaheir w/o ever talking to Minsc, or will she eventually leave?

| | Don't gimme any spoilers, but would dismissing Khalid change the storyline? How 'bout only having half of a NPC couple (Dynaheir, no Minsc? Jaheira, no Khalid?)?
I want:
Me, Jaheira, Imoen, Kivan, Adjantis, and Dynaheir, but I wanna keep the storyline at what it's supposed to be.
Arhhgg!! This entire party choosing thing is getting on my nerves.

| | I end up with BG II party algiment.
Me, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir.(not a bad party)
Look, there are a LOT of NPCs to take, many came so late (Tiax, Quale, Alorna, Yeslick...) that are almost usless unless we permently lost a NPC...
Yes, you can have half of the couple, just make sure that one dies and if the portrait still remains (grayed out), reform the party and *puff*...

| Dismissing Khalid will cause Jaheira to leave with him, so the only option is to let him solo a battle without his weapons and armor, so to speak. To get Dynaheir into your party without Minsc, just avoid talking to Minsc.

Me:ranger, Minsc, dynahier, imoen, ajantis, and that cleric who was a statue in nashkel.
I think this works allright exept the fact that I keep getting slaughtered by allmost every enemy! My party is lvl 2. Going down the road toward beregost:
Hey, look fellow partymembers. An ogre. this will be easy. wamp bamm crush. Party: dead.
Anyone has any useful tips?

| | Branwen.
Re: tactics.
Early in BG1 you need, IMHO, lots of missile weapons. Since mages are weak and have few spells and fighters have low HP you have difficulty fighting some tough critters early on.
You need lots of missile weapons. You , Kivan, Minsc and Ajantis can all have longbows, Imoen a shortbow and Branwen & Dynaheir slings. Pound them from a distance and don't be afraid to run circles around big enemies like ogres (Kivan should be handy, he gets +4 against Ogres). You may need 1 "tank" to take on anyone who gets close (scout with this person, or imoen/rangers in the shadows, so that revealed enemies attack your toughest character first).
Ajantis with plate and shield is OK, or Kivan/Minsc/you have better dex though.
That's how I survive. I usally go from The firendly arm to Bereghost and straight to Nashkel (after picking up the characters I want) only stopping to do quests for the experience after this (you should be level 3 after doing Nashkel this way). Then you are more able to take on tougher enemies in the southern parts of the map. |

| I would change that Branwen to Yeslick in Cloakwood Mines. Otherwise, that's pretty much the same group I have right now. And I'm doing quite well, I'm in Durlag's Tower now, but I haven't killed Sarevok yet, since he is QUITE tough
Anyways, just get good armors and perhaps shields and give Kivan a bow. He is a great archer.
*SPOILER*
And slay that Nimbul or whatever-guy in Nashkel who tries to kill you, you will get the Boots of Avoidance from him. They will protect you from enemy archers, which is VERY handy. That's all I can think of, that's what I did.

| | In order to ditch onwanted half of the pair, simply walk that person into a building you are not planning to visit any time soon (I used Nashkel military baracks) with just that character and then remove him from the party. You are done. |

| | I don't really think that your party affects the story line very much. Far more critical are your actions, for example, some decisions/encounters in Cloakwood that will affect the course of the game somewhat.
