OMG Nabassu (LOL**SPOILERS**LOL)

Sorry for the insane title, I'm a little harried right now. Because of that friggin' Nabassu. Whose name I can't remember...one sec, I'll look it up...Aec'Letec.

Understand that I've played BG2 and its expansion all the way through, so running into this clown whom I just CAN'T SEEM TO BEAT is making me a little stressed. I've attempted this fight 20 times so far, before I went back to my autosave outside of Ulgoth's Beard. Through all of them, I've gotten straight-out rocked, turned into a monster, had party members get ANNHIALATED (i.e. their portrait disappears), and, my personal favorite, I've killed him just to watch one of those statuesque cult guards TURN INTO HIM.

So now I'm coming back with god knows how many potions and buffs. And I buff up. And I go and fight him. And I lose. Reload. I lose. Reload. I lose. Over and over and over...

How do I beat this guy?! Even with a million summons and all his stupid guardians dead, he still ends up owning me. AAAAARGGGGH!!!!

Yep, that's a tough battle...perhaps tougher than Sarevok himself...

I always summon a load of monsters to surround the demon...then summon here if he starts getting through them and keep my party out of range so they don't get inflicted with a status effect that just leads to death later on.
Emotion (Hopelessness), the 4th level spell is a good one to use...it won't work on him a lot but when it does he'll be at a standstill. If you can find a way to reduce his saving throws before casting the spell it'll be even more effective.
Oh, don't forget to protect your party from fear effects too...the summoned creatures may fall victim to that and some stun/hold effects but the point is that they stand there while you can pepper the demon with magic arrows.

Even with all that it does take patience and luck to defeat Aec'Letec.

You should cast Protection from Evil (cleric or paladin) and Haste. They make a lot of difference.
Also, you may need +2 weapon or something like that.

Hmm... I beat him solo with a 7 level barbarian and staff of striking. I had lots of healing and invisibility potions

Poitions of Mirror Eyes (I think they are called) protects you from the gaze of the Aec'Letec which will make the fight somewhat easier. Just remember to check if the duration is running out and then pop another poition to keep your party alive.

Correct me if i am wrong-but can't you just use the Wand of Paralization on him?

Chromatic orb does also work. The demon will be paralyzed for many rounds if he fails his save.

It's also not too difficult for a buffed up fighter skilled in bow (or other missile weapons) with 100 percent MR (use potions) and the boots of speed to wipe everyone out via hit and run tactons.

Success!

I ultimately zerged him. I can't cast any charm or summoning spells because Dynaheir is a giant, giant nub (then again, I slack and use her almost exclusively for buffs and magic missile), so I had her use a wand of monster summoning. I hasted minsc and gave him a pot of storm giant strength + pot of invuln + pot of heroism + all the other buffs in the world and had him mostly solo guards (Coran and Imoen helped a little with bows). I kept the monsters on Aec'Lectec (sounds like eclectic imo) and killed off the followers. Somehow, SOMEHOW, he died and took over one of the followers, but I killed him again. Dispel magic saved Ajantis' life, and Aec'Lectec died.

If only we weren't all at the xp cap.

I hear ya. I did the expansion areas right before Chapter 6, and early in Durlag's Tower, my dudes maxed at 161k Experience Points.

But, it does sound like you got Experience, just without the Points.

Yup. When in doubt, buy potions and summon monsters.

Hmpf. One of the cheats I allow myself to use is the xp cap remover. You just killed one heck of a demon and then you're not getting the xp for it? Bah!

Well said. In my game, it felt wierd playing the last portions of the expansions, as well as all of Chapter 6 & 7, with my dudes sitting on 161k.

If I was Bioware I would have made it so that, if you did all quests and killed everything that turns red, it all added up to 161K.

Alas, these forums are the closest I'll ever get to game design.

OMG Nabassu

Spoiler My normal method is to sneak in with a bow and kill all the cult guards, take an invisible mage behind him and cast Cloudkill, making sure that I speak to main priest before casting cloudkill. it works very quickly. If you kill all the guys before he speaks to you there is a bug that stops the resolution of the quest.

I've thought of another way of dealing with him if you have Tutu installed.
Let your party upstairs. Cast Cloudkill and retire. Go downstairs with a thief protected from poison. Lure the first one upstairs and hide. When it comes upstairs it will be killed by the cloudkill. take your thief downstairs and repeat the process. It may be necessary to cast Cloudkill more than once. If anyone tries this, could they tell me if it works. Could someone also tell me whether there is any difference in the outcome if you kill him just the once by using the stealth method, or if you kill him several times

I summoned a *ton* of creatures to keep him busy while my party took out everyone else. After everyone else was dead my cleric case Bless, Chant, and Protection from Evil 10' on just about everyone (party and summons). My party then attacked with ranged weapons using magical arrows.
