Invrasvision

Potions, spells, rings, special race abillity: what does it excactly do?
Do you see further/ more specific in the dark? Or is it about seeing warm-blooded creatures?

Infravision is the ability to see using heat instead of light. Many of the Underdark races have this as a naturaly ability. They have normal color or black/white vision when enough light it present, but infravision is more useful in complete darkness. Different colors are presented by varying degrees of heat. Something very hot would appear white, while colder things would appear black or purple or blue. In Baldur's Gate, it simply makes your PC, NPCs, and living enemies appear reddish in color. It's supposed to imply that you are using infravision instead of normal vision. I don't think it has an affect on the game at all. It would make sense that an elf could shoot better in the darkness than a human without infravision, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm not 100% sure here and I honestly hope I'm wrong, because it would be really cool if infravision played a bigger role in the game when it comes to dungeons and sewers and caverns and mines, but unfortunately I don't think it does.

Characters without infravision cant see goiod in the dark. Only when scouting, the rest of his/here abilitys are not effected.

They really need to make a mod that fixes the infravision thing for both characters and enemies. The game would be so much more exciting.

I always thought characters with infravision using missile weapons had greater range (when in darkness).Although I never tested this.

To my knowledge and experience infravision has absolutely now bearing on the range of missle weapons. All it really is, is a useless spell.

Thumbs up What it is really for

It is so that you can see your warm-blooded enemies when they attack or ambush you. It makes a lot of difference when you are being ambushed.

In official D&D, characters in combat in dark conditions that did not have infravision received a penalty to their to hit rolls while characters that did have infravision were not penalized.

I doubt that made it into the game though.
