Angry How the h*** do you do it??

Being a true RPG/AD&D nut, I cannot do it! Try and try as I may, I cannot play an evil character.

Can anyone give me tips on what to pick as an evil class, and how I should play it?

Well Thieves I think are generally thought of as evil since they steal other people's property.

As for how to play evil, I can't do it either, I'm always lawful good, I can't help it.

As for advise on how to be evil you might try picking dialogues opposite of how you normally select.

Think insulting, quick tempered and kill some peasents for the hell of it.

I can be chaotic but not evil. Therefore I play chaotic good or chaotic neautral.

I understand you...
I just HAVE to play good!
Older games just forced you to play good, in BG you know
that you could do otherwise, thus playing intentionally good is more satisfying and makes you feel more like an hero!
I can't play evil even if it's only a game!!
And I start thinking that maybe you have to be a little evil
to do it!!!! )))
At least I could accept some evil members and
try to convert them!
But it seems there's a lot of evil people between us, I'm scared!!!!

Evil is much harder to play than good. Which is as it should be. I don't think that it is too hard to make evil decisions in the game, but the reprecusions are killer. The worse your reputaion gets the more likely the Flaming Fist is to randomly attack you every time you move from place to place. Much easier to be good in BG. BG2 makes it a little easier to be bad. Now let me here you say Evil is Good one time.

Being evil? The furthest I can go is chaotic good. I've tried, too, to play an evil character following the "dark" side of myself, but it doesn't seem to be so strong after all.

My friends tell me I'm quite evil, but I still can't bring myself to be evil in BG. The most I've done is kill all the courtesans and patrons in the Undercellar, and even then I saved first then reloaded from before the massacre.

The problem with being evil in BG is that most of the evil options are quite stupid... A smart evil person doesn't go around insulting and threatening everybody. Just the people he/she can get away with and has no further use for. Evil people are not necessarily stupid, and you don't have to be a genius to figure out that the so-called "good" paths in BG lead to the best rewards.

Angry

Have to agree with you Xyx, i've trying to play through BG2 with an evil party, and the truth is, being evil doesn't mean you have to be rude to everybody, tell every goody-two-shoe to pi** off, no being evil is you take the quest, complete it, backstab ppl during it in the back but in a manner you won't be the one who get's hurt in the end.

That's what i did in BG1 although i'm little bit ashamed to admit that when you are inside BG and you get the quest to retrieve helm of balduran for the mage i give him the helm, get the reward, kill him and take the helm back...(i played chaotic good at the time)

But they should've thought the side on the game that when you have low rep items cost about 150-200% more than when your rep is 20, that ain't fun since you can't even blackmail the merchants or smth

Part of the problem is defining what is evil and what is good. If you think about it, being an evil person but with a good reputation is a perfect way to avoid scrutiny of the law.

I, personally, choose Chaotic Good for all my pcs, except those who can't be Chaotic Good. I'm not sure that my decisions really reflect that, though. I always choose whatever will benifit me the most, including having the highest rep possible to get the best prices in shops.

This is evil, indeed!

That's not necessarily Evil, just selfish. Could also be considered Neutral.

Evil...
I agree fully with what is stated above, evil does not equal lacking in the field of intelligence by any means. Actually, if you look at the Realms as an rp setting..evil must practice a degree of intelligence in order to succeed and thrive. Many of the known villians within the Realms are some of the most intelligent and strategically minded beings within Toril. Some of these 'minds' make up entire organizations. The truth is, evil beings/organizations must practice more intelligence..due to the fact that the actions they undertake within the world are far less accepted, and in that gather quick attention and often quick justice of some sort when made public. Espionage and deception are not games played by the foolish. It takes far more skill when clinging to shadows..than walking within days light. One more thing, being evil does not mean existing void of honor: Two knight(or samurai)may serve separate lords(one evil..and one good)and at the same time follow the same code of honor- examples : Not attacking an unarmed foe, or failure to attack some-one from behind. Its the laws they enforce and the men they serve that see them take opposing sides of the field. Evil can be enjoyable if you see beyond simple darkness..and focus on all the detail and variety it offers. Evil beings can care/love and possess as much strength of feeling for another being, the land and lord they serve, or the code by which they live..just as much if not more than any other...
I hope this opens the world of shadows to some who prior to this could not see beyond simple darkness..
Good hunting to the servants of light, and to those of you who cling to shadows aswell...
