Durlag's Tower Can't believe I did it!

Man oh Man. In over 60+ years I never gave up on anything that I can remember, but I came so close to throwing in the towel fighting Aec'Letec.

After over 20 reloads, the battle was over, my party was alive, I was watching a movie and man did I feel great. Now I'm setting here drinking a glass of red wine, patting myself on the back and grinning from ear to ear. And whats really weird, I don't even remember what I did to win.lol

Now I'm off to Baldurs Gate to start Chapter 6. Man I love this game.

I've got a feeling in my gut that I'm nearing the end of the game and that makes me sad. Oh well. Onward Boo.

Congratulations, that boss was extremely difficult, I just ended up summoning a load of monsters to hold him off while I killed all teh disciples, then beat on him. The annoying thing was that death stare that turned your party members into ghasts. It was perma death too .

Oh, and yes, you're nearing the end of BG1... But theres still BG2 and ToB to go yet, which continue the same story, so in reality, you're barely half way through .

And dont forget: You can export your BG1 character and import it in BG2!
Thats the best part.

Congrats! Yep, that fight is probably the hardest in BGI (in my opinion). Carry your pc over to BG2 and you will have even more fun!

Congratulations! It certainly is difficult until you discover a certain weakness. I'm not going to spoil it for you by telling you what it is. Once you know, it becomes far too easy! Enjoy it being difficult! It gives far more satisfaction!
If you haven't gone to the Ducal Palace yet, you still have a major challenge. In my opinion, that is the hardest, particularly for a solo character. Then, when you have beaten Saverok, think of all the fun you can have playing with a different character. It changes the game completely, particularly if you only use one or two characters.

I agree with Pellinore: that Aec'Demon dude was the hardest battle of my game. By far. And ya gotta love that chess board!

(Btw, you did the other major quests in Ulgoth's Beard, right?)

No no no.

BG1 is just The Invention.

BG2 is but The Perfection.

And remember their gorgeous cousins:
Planescape:Torment (best story EVER)
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale II

You ain't near the end of nothin', my broth'a. No be sad.

I did the Ice Island and the Werewolf Island. Did I miss anything? Hope not.

I though the chessboard was cool. I had trouble keeping Imoen from charging forward and getting zapped with that lighting bolt.lol

Right now I just entered the catacombs in CandleKeep.

Just so I'll be prepared. Is this Ducal Palace that wise grimwald speaks of, as hard as Ace'Letec was?

Thanks guys.

My vote is Heck Nope, not even close.

The only other battle, that even came close to causing me as many reloads as Aec'Whatever, was at the very end of the main game.

(And maybe Tarnesh, in Chapter 1, in front of the Friendly Arm Inn, with those in-escapable Magic Missiles. That dude smoked me more times than I care to admit. Bastard.)

Sorry, I beg to disagree. I have always found the Ducal Palace much harder than Aec Laetec, but perhaps that is because I have discovered the weakness of Aec. Perhaps also because I usually have a party of one or two.

Just put a magic missile from Immy while he's casting his Mirror Image and he's toasted. (: Although I know what you mean, I've had friends who couldn't even enter FAI and it took me ages on my first runs. xD

Now you guys are confusing me though. I thought the death stare was from a huge demon in Ulgoth's Bird, not Durlag's Tower. And I havn't done any of 'em when I come to think of it.

Should I reinstall and do them? Is it worth it, is it that much a fun challenge?

He's talking about the demon in Ulgoth's Beard. The boss in Durlag's Tower is called Demonknight. I think sonny meant "TOSC i can't believe i did it".

And yeah, Aec'Letec is a bastard. He's probably the hardest fight in BG1. Everyone else has some sort of weakness. Sarevok can be drowned in summons and shot dead. Drizzt can be drowned in summons and Flame-Arrowed. Demonknight is only hard if you want to kill his cronies first for the XP.

The only thing that comes close to Aec'Letec are the bossfights in Grey Clan Episode One. Grachus has some nasty friends for instance. The final fight can be bloody tough too, with a Globed wizard casting Mass Dominate that can only be interrupted by killing her... quite some reloads there...

Even easier way if you're a cleric. SPOILER Highlight to read. Keep rest of your party well clear.cast sanctuary on yourself, and the guards will kill him for you!

Even Aec has a weakness. He can be taken out without taking even one hitpoint. See my post in thread "NPC gone - What gives?" if you really want to know how, but as I said in that post, it's more fun to work it out for yourself.

I was referring from the perpective of the first time through the game, which is where I gathered that Sonny's question was coming from.

If you had an easier time with Aec your first time through (as Sonny was doing), then you're a better player than I. Cheers!

With Tarnesh, most of my problem stemmed from resisting the urge to pre-buff. I always assume my character does *not* know what's around the next corner (even though I *do* know, after getting smoked and having to reload).

And in my game, Tarnesh always started with Magic Missile, which smoked my 1st level dude every time. So unfortunately, pre-buffing (and timing my approach with those guards walking by) was the only way I could get past that joker.

Point taken.

I had a completely different problem the first time I played. After being smoked the first time, I used stealth to kill all the acolytes. I then used necklace of missiles on the main one, running away and hiding after each attack. The problem was that the quest didn't finish when he was dead. I was told to stop them before it was too late after I had stopped them.
I didn't realise that you have to speak to the main acolyte for the quest to finish. I suppose that we all get different problems depending on the way we play.
