Cleric Spells Level 5

Game Banshee shows the Cleric and Druid having level five spells, however, while the druid gets them, the cleric does not for his/her spell development stops at fourt level spells. Is there any way to use the fifth level spells as a cleric or not?

For me, a pure cleric, at the end of the experience cap, with 21 Wisdom, still can't cast his fifth level spells. So, yeah. Just wanted to make sure than they're usable.

I think you might find that it is like the mage. You can cast the high level spells available at the beard etc. but you can't learn them. I will check, but I think that is the case.

I just checked the .2da files for BG, with ToSC, and they cover up to 5th level spells for both mage and priest. So, if you have ToSC installed and can't use 5th level priest spells, either it's hard coded into the engine or you've got a bug it seems.

Could you please check for me? I do have ToSC installed so my experience cap is at 160k. I can cast level five mage spells and level five priest spells as a druid, but for some reason am unable to reach them as a cleric.

Also, just clarifying, Wraith Form cannot be fount in the game, correct?

Even with a minimal Wisdom of 9, Clerics can cast 5th level spells when they reach 9th level, which requires 225,000 experience points. If you play with an experience cap, you won't reach 9th level, so you can't cast 5th level spells.

I see.

What was the purpose of adding the new cleric spells if they aren't accessible without an experience cap remover?

That's a good question. Druids can reach 10th level with a 161,000 point experience cap, but the only 5th level spells they can cast are Animal Summoning 2 and Cure Critical Wounds. So the other 5th level spells can only be used if you play a Cleric with an experience cap remover.

My guess is that the other spells were developed in anticipation of BG2:SOA. From what I've read, BG1 was sort of like a trial run for the "real" game the designers wanted to develop (BG2, that is). Since those spells were available when BG1 was released, they were put in the game. Why not? When it was time to work on BG2, the game engine worked very well, and most of the new items and spells worked correctly on the first try. All of the testing they had done when they made BG1 paid off and made their job easier when they made BG2.

The only other explanation I can think of is that they knew that players would use experience cap removers, so they wanted to make worthwhile spells available to please the crowd. Or maybe the spells were added before the experience tables and experience cap were finalized. Who knows?

Maybe the developers hit the cutoff point for adding new features for TotSC, and added whatever spells were done at that time. Then maybe later, the XP cap was determined towards the very end, during the final testing and balancing stage.

Aren't these 5th level cleric spell scrolls castable, via using them in a quick item slot?

I'm trying to remember if any enemies used these spells... Wasn't the BG1 ending made harder when TotSC was installed, to recognize the party's assumed additional level, items, etc, that the expansion areas provide?
