Any tips for defeating Davaeorn?

I'm struggling to beat him. The first time I battled him, I did eventually defeat him, but at the expense of two of my characters which I did not want and it was more luck than anything. What kind of things can I do to kill him?

First off, send in your thief to carefully disarm the first few sets of traps. Then get the majority of you party out of his line of sight - into a side room. Buff them, especially whoever is wearing the Boots of Speed (you did recover them before entering the mines I hope). Now have your thief disarm the last set of floor traps - this will expose him/her to Davaeorn's line of sight. Have thief run for cover as Davaeorn likes to unleash a lightning bolt I believe. Davaeorn will now start to use magic doors to transport himself around the floor and he will use protection from missiles as well. So forget bows, darts and bullets. Have BoS equipped person make contact with him and run away again. All this makes Davaeron use up his spells. After he has spent his best offensive spells attack him in mass. Use breach to bring down his protections if you can and just wail on him. He'll die soon enough.

Killing Davaeorn (I assume you have already taken care of his minions):

He will cast a lightning bolt at you and then start casting dimensino doors. Use Viconia or anyone who has good resistance vs lightning to take that bolt, after that shoot him with magic missiles & arrows. IMO he is VERY easy to defeat.

EDIT: Forgot to mention you should cast Dispel to remove his Protection from missiles.

Yes...on my third go I engaged him in melee fighting and he did not cast any spells after Dimension Doors, apart from summoning some Ogrillions (I summoned some skeletons and continued to slash Davaeorn) and just killed him like that.

Yep, pick up yer bows, xbows, ready them with magic arrows. Stay away from him. Let your 'boots of grounding' person take the lightining bolt damage. Then charge him with arrows. 3 archers put him down in no time.

BTW, this was the better kill on BG, the one I've congratulated myself most.
