| | Aec'Letec's death gaze Hello all,
I just defeated Aec'Letec. However, one of my chars got affected by his death gaze and is now dying. Is there a way to remove this? (I am willing to use an editor since I already quick-saved and the last real save is quite some time back.)
I tried killing the char to resurrect him later, but this causes the game to crash with an assertion error either when trying to resurrect in a temple or when loading a later save-game.
Any suggestions are welcome.

| | Unfortunate, no.
Yes I can understand the anger that we usually get because of the "death gaze", its a good thing that I can repay him in the demon outworld .

| | Have you tried the remove curse spell ? I don't know that it will actually work, when I last beat him, I just got lucky and nobody was affected by the death gaze. I hate that whole encounter, I spent more time reloading because I killed that dumb priestess b*tch before she could summon the demon than any other reason (which doesn't solve the quest as it should, just leaves it unresolved and incompletable). Dunno who playtested that part, but they should be fired.

| | Dispel Magic works just fine - I have my mage or cleric memorise it prior to the battle, because one of my characters always gets hit by death gaze, even through a Protection from Magic globe.

| | Yep, Sojourner is right - its that simple. Dispel magic will remove the death gaze effect. |

| | Dispel magic doesn't seem to work. I read in some walkthrough that it only works for 20 seconds after being hit... |

| | It works - just remember Dispel Magic is one of those spells that has a chance of failure, so you may have to try it again (I save up some scrolls for that reason.)

| | It definitely works: watch for the area effect too. Characters too far away will not receive the dispel effect. Also, watch out for magic protections & resistance.
You might also be suffering from multiple death gazes. |

| | IMO this was the hardest fight in any of the Interplay D&D games. I was able to solo BG & BGII but never even attempted to fight this one without all 6. |

| | Have just managed to solo the whole of Durlags Tower including finale with a fighter/thief at experience cap. To kill off the demon used a potion of invulnarability, potions of gaze reflection, potion of storm giant strength, potion of haste and green stone amulet as well as much armour as a poor little halfling can wear. A/C was down to about -15 and the demon just wandered around trying to hit me while I walked around the room slaghtering the cultists. Once the cultists were down it was time for Aec'Letec to meet magic tempered steel.

| | "potions of gaze reflection"
You learn something new every day, even when you've gone through the game a million times. |

| | I think they are actually called potions of mirrored eyes and they give you complete immunity to Aec'Letec's death gaze for 10 rounds.
To kill all the cultists and Aec'letec took about 30 rounds of slugfest so you need about 3 of them to do this soloing. Fortunately the trader/innkeeper in Urgoth's beard has 4 for sale.
