two things - items and lockpicks

I haven't picked up this game for years but I started reading a book that reminded me of the game so I installed to goof around with some things.

During character creation, I didn't pick up any lockpicks and I can't find any in shrouded hills. I haven't searched high and low yet but noticed none were for sale there which I found odd. Curious as to where I might find some.

Also, I found a suit of charmed plate mail in the bessie toone mine. Nice item, except I'm a dwarf and it is too big for me to wear. So I gave it to Soggy Mudd Mead but he can't seem to wear it either. I'm not certain as to why that is. He simply chooses not to equip it when I give it to him.

If I recall correctly, you might find a set of lockpicks at Ristezze's.
As for the armor, most armors in Arcanum come in three sizes - small, medium and large. Small can be worn by dwarves, halflings and gnomes, medium by humans, elves, half-elves and half-orcs and large by half-ogres. Note that medium-sized armors don't have "medium" in their names.

Thanks for the quick response.

If Riztezze has lockpicks, than I am missing them. Seems like someone in shrouded hills should sell them though. At this point, I'd be happy to console them in if possible. Next time, I won't forget to buy lockpicks upon character creation.

The armor thing is weird. This charmed plate mail has takes up more space in the inventory grid than the leather ol'soggy is wearing presently. Logical enough though that the size is off. It's just that the npc's pick their equpment based on what is in their inventory so you don't get a message as to why he can't wear the armor.

Ristezze really does sell them. Have you tried advancing time one day? That rests all bins and traders that you've visited, make sure you're well away from the store when you do. If you stand too close to a merchant then he/she may not reset.

You can also use a throwing missile (boomerang etc.) to break open chests and most doors. Press R or click on the shield to enter turn mode, hold down the Alt key whilst left clicking on the chest to attack it. It's a good idea to tell followers to back off when doing this, unless they have an unbreakable weapon readied, the quickest way is to press F5 after entering turn based mode. Alternatively, Sog's good at bashing give him a boomerang and order him to attackthe chest, talkes a bit of time, it's quicker if you can give him railroad spikes or iron pipes to wield, just make sure you take any useful weapons off him first.

Yeah, I know about the alt-attack for inanimate objects. I used sogg to bash the barrel in question, but I was worried its contents would be destroyed. Maybe they were, I found revolver pieces.

I'll try the bit with resting and rolling over the stock of vendors.

thanks.
