Stuck in Tarant

Hello!

I am trying to enjoy this beautiful game, but have problems making progress in Tarant. I found Schuyler&Sons shop, talked to the guy in there, talked to Magnus about Schuyler. How do I go from there? Could you just give me a hint as what to do next? Just a little hint, please...

PS. I have not put any points into lockpicking, prowling etc. since I play a tech/melee character, that solves quests by fighting/diplomacy.

Did you get the key from the guy in the shop and explore the cellar below Schuyler&Sons? If you aren't any good at pick pocketing, just try anyway, if you fail he should attack you, with no bad consequences, and you can then loot the key from his corpse. Not an elegant solution admittedly, but I never found an alternative.

If your persuation skill is high enough you can persuade him to give you the key.Otherwise you are going to need to pickpicket him or kill him.

Many thanks!

I was running all over Tarant trying to find out what to do next. Somehow killing the only guy in the shop did not seem right if your mission is "to talk someone at the Schuyler&Sons". I thought the you could access their shop via sewers accessed in the lighthouse in the docks, since the entrance hatches look the same. Anyway, I think I have to assert myself more in later quests.

Well

Wait until night comes and he opens the door to his bedroom. Go in before the door closes, wait till he goes to bed. Save. Pick his pocket. Works for me most the time.

Also works with the gnome and the invitation to the gentleman's club, and the guy with the sewer map. When you buy and wear the pickpocket glove you can actually train up a level in pickpocket without any points. That helps so you don't have to "save, load" so much.

BTW, persuasion also works. You can bluff him that you're an inspector with the right dialogue.

If by any chance you decide to kill him be sure to tell magnus to wait.He just doesn't like doing evil things and will probably leave you.

Whilst that is generally very sound advice, in this particular scenario I've never known Magnus to bat an eyelid.

Killing the servant is the easiest option, whether it's the best boils down to personal preferance. Generally I find pickpocket a horrible skill, in all my games I've needed pretty much maxxed pickpocket to only achieve a medicore success level, this is combined with prowling too.
