I'm New

hello i just started to play this game. Here are some questions:

1. I am in stonewater or stillwater whatever the name is...Virgil died on me in the mine how do i find a new follower who can help me?

2. How do i get to tarrent? and past the thieves?

Well you could go back to a save where Virgil is still alive, he's not that essential, but he does have his own story line. Alternatively there's several NPC's depending on your alignment and magic/tech affinity. You can find out about them here: GameFAQs: Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (PC) FAQ/Walkthrough by SWCarter, which is the best walkthrough I found for Arcanum.

No offense but, "My follower died, where do I find some more cannonfodder." is pretty much how your first question sounds like to me.
Maybe you should save more often instead of simply letting your followers die, I don't know how you feel about them, but they are a pretty fun to have around. In Arcanum, followers are more than just cannonfodder.
