Question Help, my NPC:s are getting grumpy...

Hi all! Could someone please explain this to me:

While i was exploring the mines for Mr Bates i suddenly noticed that my NPC:s reactions was lowered. Virgil had been, up until now, "courteous" (65). He is now neutral (53). Sogg was neutral ('bout 50), now he's suspicious (30!)
Same goes for the damn dog i saved in Ashbury. In the beginning he was very pleased that i saved him, but now his reaction is down to 35.

I dont like the idea of them leaving me. I've packed them all with stuff and so on plus i've leveled them up quite a bit.

Should i improve my CH, or persuation perhaps? Maybe there is a very easy fix to this, but i dont know it...

Any ideas are appriciated, many thanks!

There is a severe alignment issue in the mines, I think its the little beserkers but it could be any of the mops in there. My first time through I was killing everything in there and the party morale was dropping so very fast. I reloaded and let my followers initiate every battle (skipping my turn) and avoiding killing anything that didn't hit on me first (hit nothing without a red circle under it). At the bedrooms on the second level, Dante was *****ing over and over about attacking good aligned creatures which where attacking us on sight. What does he want me to do!? Unless searching for schematics I just run straight to the end of that particular dungeon. Killing the guy at the end is quite a release after the frustration he causes.

Some solutions:

Fate points aren't just for stealing equipped items on npcs You can use them to force a good reaction from anyone including followers. As soon as I found dog I upped his neutral alignment to LOVE.

Or you can raise your beauty. You can sink character points in there but there are a lot of items and quests that raise beauty, charisma and reaction. Grab the amulet in the chest in the panarii temple in Tarant and loot the ring off the gnome in Grant's tavern (also in Tarant, use a fate point or kill him out of sight of your followers). Another option is the smoking jacket or sunday dress, ok armor for a mage or thief maybe but not practical for anyone taking on a fire elemental toe to toe.

There is a couple of opportunities to raise your beauty in the town of Stillwater which is coming up soon.

My personal advice though is to ditch the whiny hippies, take followers with a bit of moxy.

Talk to any NPC that not responding to any auto needs. If they are mad at you just talk to for some and other will need a gift before they return to normal fighting.

Magnus would want some snuff.
Dog won't accept anything to chear him up.
Franklin Payne likes Earl Grey tea.
Gar also likes a cup of Earl Gray tea.
Geoffrey Tarrelond-Ashe likes Chateau de Be'ron Brandy.
Jayna Styles likes Sweet Cakes.
Jormund should stay neutral.
LongHaire Thunder-stone da nada.
Perriman Smythe likes Earl Grey tea.
Raven likes Elven Spring Water.
Sebastian nothing.
Sogg Mead Mugg likes a bottle of wine.

Check the alignment for you and each NPC and they should be in the same range. Alignment can be affected by fighing on the open range. But some NPC will not let thier alingment go any higher.

If inventory gets too high some NPC will slow down. I've seen Virgil moving at 2 after he picked up extra armor in the Vendigroth Plains. Use Strength of earth on NPC if the load goes above moderate.

Remember the F keys can be used to force a fight or to stop a fight.

If an NPC is crippled by a trap or some creature put a major heal on him ASAP. Virgil may be able do this.

Locate Stillwater before going into the BMC. Teleport to Stillwate to put extra items into your dresser at anytime. Also save items for the Blessing quest and Qintarra found in the Wheel Clan mine and elsewhere.

Don't do anything evil or some will get mad. Don't attack anyone inside a town unless your inside a building. Tell anyone who will have a negitive reactionj to wait outside. Magnus is especially bad for this.if you can let the NPC attack first or let the creature attack first to avoid making a NPC angry.

Thanks for the help! I had to go back a couple of saves but i guess it's worth it.

From now on i aint hitting s*it. Just let the dog and the dumb ogre do the work for me ^^

As for faith points, i've only gotten one so far. And of course i wasted it on a lockpick. I've read that u get faith points for doing good stuff.
Hell i should have lots of 'em since i'm "77-good" on the alignment scale. (I'm guessing thats alot)

Well well...back to the mines...damn dwarves..

Yea! I only use Virgil and eventually Raven for NPC. Virgil is very tolerent for most of the game. I also found the dog does not survive the BMC. The traps are deadly for him. But each to their own in Arcanum.

Grumpy NPCs

NPCs don't like being in some areas too long - for example the Haunted castle in Ashbury and the Ancient Temple.

Best thing to do is dash in kill a few things and then leave and go and do something else for a while then go back and do a bit more.

As well as that, Magnus gets peeved if you hit a "good" guy, however even the others don't like hanging around skeletons etc for too long.
