Caladon Quest question *poss spoilers*

Hi:

I have just saved standing outside the City Hall in Tarant. I got the quest to serve as negotiator for Caladon to join the Unified Kingdom. I am immediately suspicious of this quest - I'm a good aligned (100%) mage (full magick align), so the thought of a Kingdom with a strong magickal component joining the tech based Tarant-led union bothers me.

Anyway, on the way out I'm confronted by someone who ultimately identifies himself as Jenks who wants me to assassinate the King of Caladon because of them wanting to join the UK. I took that, as the argument sounds convincing ...

I'm stymied - on the one hand, assassination is not a good thing. On the other, it seems to make sense that the union will lead to war, that the mages in Caladon will suffer, and that in general the only ones to benefit are the gov't officials involved in the union.

So my (me, actual person) take is that my character *should* do the assassination, as it is in the interest of the 'greater good' ... but is that how the game sees things? Anyone know?

Thanks,

Mike

The assassination is a real quest. Its ok to do an occassional evil quest just pay attention to your alignment meter. I actually use the Helm of the Damned to pump up the magic/tech meter to 100% magic after applyiing 5 points to repair. This helm trades 20 points of positive alginment for 20 positive points on the magic/tech meter. This helm is available from outlying shops and from the bottom of the Ashbury Haunted Castle.

Thanks - I don't think I conveyed my question very well. What I was wondering was:
- Would the assassination quest be considered 'evil'?
- Are there ramifications like - does the entire city now want me dead, or is it just a few in the castle, like when I killed Stout?
- Does the treaty have a gameplay impact that I - as a mage - need be worried about, or does it just end with successful negotiations?

Thanks,

Mike

Any act you deem evil is. We all have out own idea of good and evil and because you ask if it is it must be.

If you travel into the castle so you are not seen then you have nothing to worry about. There is an under ground way into the castle.

Each side quest is considered to be an individual selection. And all provide points and sometimes access to other quests. The only main quest is the Arronax issue. So doing the assassination unseen should have no impact on other areas, again you must not be seen.
