Question automaton gunner?

I found a schematic for this monster, it's a combination of a regular (melee) automaton and an elephant gun. so, I made myself an automaton, made (stole ) myself an elephant gun, combined 'em, put the new-made autom. gunner in my hotkey slot and deployed it... and voila! it 'transformed' into a standard automaton! the thing that freaks me out is that this happens even after the patch! (guess they didn't fix everything )
I've seen several fixes on some sites that fix some concrete things (1 fix for 1 bug), but wasn't able to find a fix for the a. gunner... and it'd be REALLY helpful cos I got four automatons (for now) clanking behind me

Awesome, four Automatrons?!? I was never able to get so many steam engines in the game since the shops seem to stop selling them once I got one automatron.

Are all your automatrons machine gun ones or just the one?
Does the machine gun auto use ammunition or is it limitless?

I got one steam engine from a shop in Wheel clan, 2 from the inventor in Tarant and found the fourth one south of Caladon by the shipwreck.
the shops get steam engines and minute steam works (for machined platemail) every once in a while, though much more rarely then any other items
and it's quite easy to get leather armor, spools of wire and dwarven ore (especially at Wheel Clan) for an elite plate

I believe that they're supposed to have infinite ammo, but as I already said, there is a bug in the game that transforms them to regular (non-gunner) automatons once you deploy them, but to fix that i'd have to hack the game, and I'm afraid I'm not very good at it

There's quite a few problems with Arcanum, not enough to be game ruining but a few. One of the worst things I hated (not a glitch) is clicking on a Auto and making it compact without my knowing, then leaving the expensive thing lying on the ground and leaving.

One of the strangest things is if I'm lockpicking the chests in the Dwarven shops my own Automatron turns on me.
